Actually, as someone that deals with mold in construction and remodelling, vinegar kills spores much better than bleach. The chlorine in bleach is great for cleaning up the dark discoloration.) Follow it up with cheap white vinigar to wipe out remaining spores.

I can't speak directly to your question, but here's what I will say about dating that hat. The early Stetson hats had stars in the upper, left quadrant of the crest. On sweatband crest stamps, that ended in the 40's, and hats from the 50's usually have oak leaf clusters instead. Tip and liner crests sometimes maintained stars in the 50s, even though the sweat did not.
Hard to say without seeing them but I just removed a small smudge from the brim of a light coloured fedora with dry corn starch and an orange hat sponge. I rubbed the starch into the stain, let it sit for a few minutes then brushed it out. A low risk option to try.

Something in a colour similiar to this, as opposed to a more classic stark white/cream.
I don't really know much about hats, except most look awful on me. I've a large head, and a small face. I want something that protects me from the sun, and will look great with most classic menswear summer outfits. Think sports coats, or just a polo shirt and trousers.
I measured just above my eyebrows by 0.5" and got 22 3/8" circumference around my head.
I have no idea what I'm doing and need help.
