I love the LVC jeans , only have some 1947 and 1955 though but recently i checked the regular 501 (sanforized / pre shrunk denim ) and compared a new one to my still new / never worn 1947 One wash / Rinse model ( that has been washed once by Levi's , so it is pre shrunk) that is the same cut as the STF LVC 1947 and should be the same denim (once, Cone Denim untill the Cone Plant in north Carolina closed in 2017 , now Japanese made Denim ) .
I say "should " cause after one wash , the Shrink to Fit 1947 LVC , keeps the same sort of gray color it has when new and doesn't get dark blue before a few washes, whereas the Rinse model said to have been washed only once , already has that dark blue color .
The other difference is that those Rinse models are cut and assembled in Turky or Bulgary for the ones sold in Europe , whereas a few were made in USA and others in Japan i believe .
Now , when comparing that LVC 1947 Rinse , to the regular 501, sincerly , there is not that much difference !
Mainly , the difference are that the regular 501 is not selvedge , there are no hidden rivets on the back pockets and that the front and back rise are slightly shorter on the regular 501 than on the 1947 .
Also the leg circumference is very slightly narrower on the regular 501 ; see measurments bellow ( multiply every measurments by 2 for whole circumference, except legth obviously ) .
That said, for those who can live without the Selvedge thing , the quality seems to be more or less the same , the Denim thickness is the same and they even removed the leg's inner side double stitch used on their jeans, from the early 80's at least ( maybe even earlier ) , to the years 2000 or 2010's maybe , to get closer to the vintage ones .
I lived without even knowing what Selvedge was , until about 2013 or so , when i discovered the LVC collection , knowing the Selvedge jeans made by Levi's , were manufactured until 1983 or 1984 but the quality was still really good and the Denim was thicker back then !
I still have some vintage Shrink to fit 501 's , some used , washed and shrunk but as new as can be just like after one wash, some that are faded and well worn from the mid 80's and even some still brand new / never washed nor worn, still with the labels on them , manufactured in the late 80's or so, that i found in a shop which had an old stock still left.
The Denim was thicker than the regular nowadays 501 or the LVC ones !
The jeans have that double stitched leg's inner side stitch and don't have the hidden rivets on the back pockets .
Personaly, i think it was better without those rivets , cause it is wearing the stitching and becomes visible after a while and damages the stitch whereas it is really strong enough to do not need that rivet
Not sure if the double stitches were really useful but it was really strong for sure; no way you crack the leg or crotch here , unless your jeans are really worn-out there !
That said , for those who practice horse riding , i always heard it was not good for bareback horse riding ,as those double stitch are hurting the horse !
On the 1947 in size W30L32 when new , just out of the shop :
W=38,5 cm L=80cm
Hem : 20,3cm
Calf: 21cm
Knees: 22cm
Thigh ( at crotch level ) :30cm
Width ( jean flat ) about the middle of back pockets :50cm
The front rise is about 29,5 cm
The back rise is about 38cm
On another one W30L32 :
W:39cm L=81 cm
hem: 20cm
Calf: 21cm
Knee: 21,5cm
Thigh ( at crotch level ) : 29,5 cm
