I recently acquired (but not yet received) this "Carlton Club Custom Made" straw. The sweatband is marked "AIR STREAM and WEATHERIZED". I have been trying to find information on the company but have had very little luck. I have found two references.

Hatatorium: An Essential Guide for Hat Collectors by Brenda Grantland says Carlton Club Hats "A maker of men’s and women’s hats that advertised in the 1940s." That one line is all.
And this ad from Evening Citizen an Ottawa newspaper dated Feb. 21, 1945. From this I would think only Bryson Graham Department Stores sold Carlton Club hats.

Has anybody heard of Carlton Club hats or have any more information?

I don't seem to have much luck with the search function on this site so I'm posting here again seeking information. I'm looking at a 50's era Open Road style Coronet and wondering about local opinion regarding this brand.

You never know. The lounge search engine is nearly useless, but redefining search parameters on outside engines, even accidentally, makes me feel like I'm peeling an onion (without the tears).

Hi guys- Does anyone know where i can purchase a roll(s) of the decorative tape/ribbon that one finds at the seam of a leather sweatband ? I've been searching online for deadstock vintage ribbons but i dont think it makes much difference as newer hats also use the same textured or ribbed tape that you'll find on vintage hats.

POPULARITY Brand Hat. Can not find this brand of hat on the I'net. Anyone familiar with it? Inside on the lining it says: "Superior Quality, Popularity Hats, Fine Fur Felt". On the leather sweatband is: "POPULARITY".

I've got a Stetson Chatham Royal Deluxe that I'm considering recreasing/rebashing. I've got a suitable steamer; do I need a block? I wouldn't mind starting with an open crown and going from there.

I've just started looking at blocks, but any direction will be appreciated.

You can use various balls to work the crown while steaming. A 4-5” cheapo ball works and even a tennis ball works well. Just steam and roll the ball around the upper crown while gently pulling the brim from the opposite side. You might be surprised how well it sets the open crown.

I like it, Bowen. The two I have are different sizes, one accommodating broader vintage or western brims better. Is that an issue with yours?

Yes it is. They all have drawbacks. By no means my preferred way to store hats in a perfect world, more functional and dictated by space limitations. The round circles also push out the crown/creases of the hats we all love. The tissue thin, pillowy, finger felts. But damn you can stash some hat numbers on them. Mine is a wreck, two hats stacked on most of the lower 6rows, some in between and the top row gets stacked like a pyramid. Best thing about them other than the Christmas tree size is you can spin em around for a whole new view like a rubik cube and find the hats you forgot how much you liked!

I've got a question regarding Akubra Stylemaster sizing & I see one available in size 58. I'm not sure if it's a good fit size wise for me.

FWIW - My Stetson Chatham is a 7 1/2 with foam padding inserts to bring it down in size a little. All of my newsboy caps are size 59

Do the Akubra run true to size? Or should I consider buying much larger than the 58?

I stopped in at David Morgan last week and tried on a few Akubra's - I typically wear a 7 3/8 or 7 3/8 Long Oval - the equivalent being 59 was very snug and I was told it would shrink further. If I was to buy an Akubra I would go with a 60

I'm sure someone who has owned one for some time will chime in.

I will not be much help here as I have 2 Stylemasters. One is a 59 and the other is a 60. Bought them at a shop so could try them on. I am a 59 usually but the second one I bought the 60 just felt better on my head. In my books it is better to size up than down. Shims work better and are easier than trying to squeeze out a bit more in a hat.

Haven't uploaded photos before so we'll see how this goes. I'm looking for help identifying this Stetson. No style indicated on the sweatband as far as I know. (I don't have the hat in my possession or I'd know for sure and also could provide more photos.) Brim is 2", crown is 4 1/2. Closest thing I've found to its looks is the Playboy, but those don't seem to have a lining and the style usually is stated. Please let me know if you have an idea about what this might be. Thanks!

"Playboy" or what ever; it looks like a winner if you can get it for a reasonable price

Yes, 1 size up is the max...passed that and the gap is too great to shim.
