What material is the black "bands" between the stacked hats in the closet? Did you source them, or make them yourself. Details please!
Mike,they're a closed cell foam designed for concrete separation.It came in a large roll requiring splitting the width,measuring proper length and gluing the ends.

Other than boxed customs and homburgs, a portion of my collection hangs on paint stirring sticks (usually free for the asking) inserted on top of hobby reference books in the back bedroom. I like to call it my "hat room" but it is still the "guest room".

And this is what it looks like, on the right I'm doing a zig zag pattern, I need my coworker to print some more for me (took him 2 weeks to get me 1 when he finally got around to it
) and I am getting a third hat made already
I was thinking of putting them over my bed in 2 rows, but I have artwork there as is

I store my hats like this: some hanging on the wall on the famous IKEA bathroom hooks and some in boxes!!

I have an opportunity to get three display cabinets (two are in the pictures) very cheap. A friend is retiring and selling everything in her antiques mall. These are 81”H x 41”W x 17”D. I figure I could place 24 to 27 hats in each if I add more shelves. The front door slides open left and right. The only thing that has me a bit concerned is that there is a gap of about 1/3” between the door and the cabinet do to the sliding mechanism. So the hat could get dusty. Right now I keep all my hats in boxes - one to each box. Is that enough of a concern to pass on this? Or do I pull the trigger. BTW these are Polanski and are not antique. All three are the same and I can get them for about 1/4 cost new.

Cool. You grabbed my attention with 9 campaign hats! Grand. Very cool display airplanes and tanks.
Bill; Max would be the expert as to hat cabinets. Check in with him as to the specifics. I do like the idea. Very cool to feature special hats. Those cabinets would not house all your hats surely. What happens to the balance? Would you rotate the displayed hats? I imagine that Max would have to have a great memory to recall each hat and it's location.
I have hat boxes (floor to ceiling on a couple walls in a couple rooms), hats (3 high) on wood shelves about 18" from the ceiling in one room (with plastic protectors and foam rings), hats in storage boxes and many dozen on a desk. I do store some hats at our "cabin." Admittedly, I am a mess and need some concentrated effort when it comes to organized hat storage. I should make it a Fall 2019 goal.
I like the display units.

Actually they should hold at least 72 maybe up to 81. My current count is 88. I could stack a few if I needed to. Or sell some of the less worn.
