The "Easy Rider" ones I have are all "vintage" made in Rochester new York by Bausch & Lomb. Iused to look for them when folks were selling "old ray Bans" or "Classic Ray Bans". That's how I came about the 5 sets. One is NOS cased and boxed !

Luxxotica still make a similar/copy style. Search for "Ray Ban Olympian" and you'll find them on ebay Australia OK

Thanks I now need a pair of these off to eBay I go

Great thread! Sunglasses are one of the many outlets for my long standing, deep seated addictive personality (along with leather jackets, watches, sneakers, t-shirts, etc. etc. etc.).

Being of inherited bad eyesight from glasses wearing parent, ive been wearing minus glasses since the second year of my junior highschool. So never have any sunglasses like cool kids... but since nowadays i can just have any kind of tint over my minus glasses, i have exact same pairs in auto tinting, brown gradation for exceptionally sunny days, and yellow gradation for driving and night time.

Superfluous what a post mate , thanks for that !

Now I just have way too many Ray Ban styles to do that. Way over 120. Many NOS as mentioned.

Lots of them I just collected because they were B&L ray Ban and I did not have the style already.

On top of that my wife has 20 pairs of ray Ban separately that she cycles thru'. All "lady styles" but of course so would be half of my collection !

I also have quite a few pairs of Persol , some NOS and some I wear/cycle regularly.

The jewel in the crown of my Persol collection is a NOS pair of Persol Ratti 58230. Still with lens sticker etc. Bought new and for a bargain in a "Duty Free" shop here in Perth Western Australia some 10+ years ago. Now I knew EXACTLY what they were BUT THE SHOP DID NOT ! Sold without the original case as it had been long misplaced. So after a few years I found another style of Persol NOS that used the same case as these mentioned ones. Put these Ratti 58230 into the NOS case and I wear the others in a used ebay Persol case as part of my rota. They are a very similar shape and style. These NOS Ratti 58230 have never been worn as I would HATE to drop/scratch or lose them !

Why are they "so important" ? Well read on sir !

These are the EXACT same Persol model "stolen" from the bartender in Terminator 2 ( along with the Winchester shotgun)
They are now worth a FORTUNE on ebay USA and other sites. Now many of my ray Ban collection of NOS are also worth a relative packet now, so have been a "good investment", but these "Terminator" Ratti are the jewel in my collection's crown.

Cool story @Downunder G Man .

I personally do not buy sunglasses — nor any other personal property — as an investment. Rather, I purchase sunglasses solely to wear them. I should sell the ones I have stopped wearing but I am too lazy.

Sorry Superfluous if I appeared a bit "wise guy" there, was not my intention.

The "investment" thing was by pure accident really and only maybe applies to perhaps 5/6 types I have gathered.

Originally I only bought sunglass types I would wear of course , then the "collecting" bug takes over and off we go !

Upside is they are easy to store even in the multiples. 3 drawers in a chest of drawers does it. I have most Ray Ban types ever made over the years. I did find an ebay seller in the US who had a garage full of NOS and "salesman samples NOT FOR SALE" embossed on the inner arms. How cool were they ? Her late father had been a B&L salesman for many years

I laid my collection ALL out on my lounge floor last Christmas holidays ( high summer here remember !) and let my 17 year old daughter try them all on , ( most were too big , all the "male" types ). She chose 3 to use and wear and keep.
One pair of red Wayfarers , one pair of "John Lennon" type and one pair of Ray Ban i's

My current rotation:
Maui Jim’s for daily wear
Nackymade Gray tortoiseshell for when I feel stylish :)
Native for running because they’re so light.

Have to admit though, this thread has me thinking I might need another pair!

Really liking this thread. It brings like minds together, bringing style focus to one place on sunglasses.
My only pair I purchased with any thought are Persal, Steve McQueen editions. I figured they looked cool enough for him, it would work for me. Feeling like a sellout though, jumping on the marketing hype or, a little late to the party.
The back stories on the sunglasses in this thread add to coolness factor.

For style, older vintage tortoiseshell Ray Ban Wayfarers, the colour goes with most of my clothing combo's being in brown shades. I prefer the lenses to be polarising and without the gaudy Ray Ban scripted on the front.
Unfortunately I have taken to wearing similar cheaper types, maybe even made in China. Why? Because in 3 years I have left them on the sun bed by the pool only to be stolen by another hotel guest, left on a cafe table, my fault. And left on a wall to wipe the sweat off my brow, again my fault.
For motorcycling, again Wayfarers but this time slightly oversized, visor removed from full face helmet, or with open face lid.
The worst case I heard of stolen sun glasses(they happened to also be (Raybans) was a friend dropped his on the floor of the aeroplane for his holiday and they went behind the seat, economy class. When he asked the woman behind to pass them for him she told him they were hers. A massive argument ensued to which the stewardess was called but unfortunately no proof of ownership could be proved on either side, so the woman was entitled to keep them and advised to argue about it once out of the airport. I won't bore you with details but he did not get them back.

Greetings Again:
And for the you can’t tell where i’m looking look.
Vuarnet: these are only @30 yrs old. Lol Their big deal was they were polarized, had gradient mirrors with a center section non-mirrored. Maybe the first to do that. Idk
I do know some colors get weird. Yellow lines on the road turn pink.
All this was pretty darn radical back in the day.
If not the RB Aviators it’s these and both have served me well some 45 yrs. Style wise....never cared...some things just rock forever. Imho
Be well. Bowen

I'd love to get the Magnoli repros, but his come with brown lenses, which are not only inaccurate to the original Persols, but I can't stand that tint of lense. I'd love a pair of the original T2 Persols, but faaaar too rich for my blood, especially taking into consideration my tendency to lose/break sunglasses.

Ahhh..."Rose tintit' specs" , mah favourite..

I do have a few B&L Clubmaster variants in the B&L "fleet"..yes I know it's a sickness but there you go.

I am 60 , did not need "readers" until I was over 55 , now I need readers for everything !

Still OK to drive and ride Harleys in my Ray Ban variants thankfully !

My first pair of prescription readers were of course Luxxotica Wayfarers ( what else haha ?)

Since then my health fund will "give" me "2 pair fur wan" at Specsavers.

I try to get "cool wans" , but now at work my (younger) colleagues reckon I look like a "hipster"..

This gettin' old is a pure hump..What is a "hipster" anyways ?
