A John Cavanagh too! What did it sell for?

$40. I should have bid harder for the felt age alone, but what am I going to do with (3) hats of this combination? Unsure of that type of sweat on a felt hat, though, and couldn't bring myself to replacing it with a leather one. You see my conundrum...o_O

I hear you. Such an unusual and old hat....
I actually had six hats that I was watching end today, so I had to pick and choose what to go after (and for how much). That was my miss. One was a top hat that was too small but another curiosity. Two hats received no bids, though I was only seriously contemplating one.

And then my two victories. A beater/project Panama boater:

And a Stetson top hat:

Because who needs a beater boater and a top hat? These ones might get me in trouble.

Who doesn’t need these things though? Just hide them in the middle of the stack.

My first used / vintage hat. Think I got a good deal at $32.00. It was pretty dirty, but is in great shape after a light cleaning, other than the wind cord. I still plan on steaming and brushing some more, and maybe reworking the bash.

Trying to find some info and date on it, but it seems this 'The Sovereign' was used on a lot of different styles. I thought Sovereign and Twenty were both quality designations, but it seems strange that it's 'THE' Sovereign.

Any ideas would be appreciated since I'm new to vintage hats.

You’re in luck. The black leather sweatband, the green in the liner, and the mixed number size tag are all consistent with a hat made from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. The liner and leather colors are just my personal observations, but there are lots of examples of the mixed number size tags only being used only in that small window of time.

Thanks for the info, very cool ! It's a little more of a stingy brim than I thought from the ebay listing, but I think it will look great with my 1940's grey herringbone overcoat this winter.

Congrats, and, be forewarned as there's no going back now! At 6-7/8 you're sitting on a goldmine for finding vintage hats at good/great prices.

It's easy to misjudge a brim width as camera angle can make all the difference. I quickly learned to send a message to the seller and ask for that information if it's not already listed.
