Aha, I tried to guess without seeing the answers.
We guessed identically. It's funny how we both thought the steer was the Vicenca and the Vicenca was goat. I own three CLX steerhide jackets and none of them look even anything close to to this steerhide sample. Same for the Vicenca, looks nothing and I mean nothing alike my Vicenca jacket. @Fortehus you really shouldnt make up your opinions on these samples, they are straight up missleading.

Absolutely. I would like to see real one when I visit aero next week.

The steer grains feels similar though with my 673 (I also attached above)

Will snap a pic when I get a chance but I do own Vicenza, FQHH, and Steer Aeros. Still in the keeper collection and multiple others that have been rotated out. In my experienced based opinion, the Vicenza is my least preferred option and I would never pay extra for it. Even if it was equal price, it would still be my least fav and Id only select it for a 3/4 length jacket where I prefer softer draper and thinner hides. But then again, my preference is for thicker heavier duty hides in general.

Even with the FQHH and Steer. Some batches are better than others, sometimes drastically, so I always ask that my sample cutting be from the current batch my actual jacket will be made out of. Its just the nature of leather tannery's and an organic product. It is super difficult to make it a 100% consistent product which must be a hassle for jacket manufactures who's reputation is made on it.

Vanson is perfect example of this. The good old rep was heavy duty comp weight for riding built iron tough. While they can control the quality of construction which I feel has remained consistently tough. The variation in hide batches and specific tanneries used, has definitely wavered. One person might end up with a keeper jacket and another an instant return or last purchase and semi disappointment. However, if you talk to them ahead of time and mention what you're after they can point you in the right direction. Or say hold off till the next batch arrives which might be a better fit.

Just got back from Aero sale. Tried a lot of jacket.

Some of the fqhh is amazingly stiff and I can barely move my hand.

The best fit I can get is the russet Vicenza

Though it’s lighter and thinner, the vicenza can still stand by its own.

The color is feel like painted so when it chipped it’s like showing different color and not depth.

Regardless to say with good price, it’s still a good buy.

From 750 marked down to 600 + tax refund of 100, cost me 500.

And this one is made by Julie.

If I need custom and get my whole spec, leather, ship, import tax it will easily reach £900-1000. And that’s crazy! I can totally accept it with half of that cost [emoji41]

Back on the fence with this jacket. Truth be told, the sleeves are just too short. But the jacket is not getting a lot of attention up for sale, and it's just so darn nice to wear. Considering just pulling it off the market altogether and wearing it periodically. It's just too nice really but going to be a little bit of a difficult fit for a lot of people.

Any thoughts? Want to help steer my decision? Open to ideas...

Kicking this thread back into Active again. Questions have arisen as to the the Leather type differances. While in no means any kind of expert, I hope this helps with understanding the differances a bit more.

FYI the Ridely is long sold & shipped out to Australia.

I have a love/ hate thing with horsehide...If I were to order custom again, I’d go with the steerhide.

Why would you opt for Steerhide over horse? I haven’t had a chance to handle a horsehide jacket so I don’t really have a reference point for it, and I’d like to know what factors would lead you to pick steer.

Is it the grain that you prefer with steerhide hm? I can’t imagine it’s a wearability issue since I have found horsehide to be as comfortable as steerhide when comparing jackets of the same weight and style.

This is not that unusual. Steer is preferred by some for its character and wearability.
