Not too much plastic to pickup on the beach this morning. High tide and a lot of rain some how worked for a felt western.

Good afternoon. Grilling a lamb roast in the on and off again light rain. I am wearing a vintage green felt Knox Twenty. Guests arrive in a couple of hours so dinner preparation are at the frenetic stage.

Best, Eric -

That is a beautiful Knox. Love the color! Just wondering if you ever make your way into Heimies in St. Paul? I try to get in there a couple times a year. heimies.jpg

Took only one hat with me on tour in the Black Hills this week, and decided to spend my hat budget on a pair of boots while on the road.
You’re likely to be seeing a lot of this Greeley Hat Works Western homburg in the next several days. made a few friends along the way. One sad brown bear cub, in particular, looked like he could use a little cheering up. I think the hat helped for a moment.

Three hats arrived from Holland this week. Here's one of them. A Patterson & Co Trilby. I know nothing about this company other than it's English.

I liked the look and shape of this one, so just had to buy it. Thankfully, Stefan thought I should , too [emoji4]

Nice classic lines, with a very nice side to side bow, or roll.
Outside in the daytime too!
I guess we can dismiss the Vampire suspicions.

Thank you. I don’t know much about boots but these seemed really comfortable and the guy told me they are a well-made boot, made in Pennsylvania. Abilene is the company.

Not as difficult as it seems with a little practice. Don't know if you have a shackle. I put the curls in mine by other means.
Loose lips sink ships.

I like a curved metal rod, gas stove, and modified wooden spoon.

Roll Tide, indeed.

I have found that once you have the roll started well, as you describe, you can get close to a finished look using your iron by placing the hat on a hard surface, I repurposed a piece of countertop when we updated. Place your form inside the roll and hold it in place with your fingers and with the iron on its edge, roll it across the damp brim towards the crown while you try like hell to keep your fingers out of the way. Turn the steam OFF! Trust me. Doing this helps reduce the 'pie' pinch lumps as well.
Submarine off the starboard bow!

Thanks H&R. I found a quiet spot outside to take a quick selfie or two before returning to the coffin [emoji6]

Thanks Ken. If I recall that hat is the only one I found in the Goodwill Halloween hat bin last year.

Today it's a Biltmore President, at least until the rain starts up.

You pull off the look very well, Steve. It just looked odd on me (aside from it being too large). I don't think Patterson was a manufacturer (the company doesn't get mentioned in the lists). Most likely a retailer, like Dunn&Co were, who outsourced his hats.

Today....it’s time for a reinstallment of the Mystery Black. Maybe more appropriately named the Seven Star American. Idk
Evidently neither does anyone else because as far as i know...i know nothing...but what is on the sweatband crest and that it is old old. It is kinda neat though.
So...any hat sleuths are welcome to have at it.
Be well. Bowen
Ps: whole new respect for pencil curlers and felt resilience and durability. Curlin ain’t easy!!
Both hat and jacket deserve a warm round of applause, Bowen. Wonderful.

Excellent 20, Eric.
Grilled Lamb! I can almost smell it.
You're pretty camo in that Knox and jacket. I wouldn't blame you if you happened to slip into the foliage with that roast and a bit of mint jelly.

Thank you, Stefan. I guess I'm lucky that I can wear almost any style of hat and pull the look of it off.
Thanks too re the info about Patterson & Co. I should have thought of that myself.
