What was the last TV show you watched?

Ken Burns: Country Music. PBS. I gave up after episode 2. I'm interested. Very interested, but I can't do it for two hours a day, a week or more in a row. If a documentary like this is good, which it is, not only do I need some time to digest the information, but I would also like a week in-between so I can research the actual music on my own. I want to do some listening before we're onto the next period. One more time: ridiculous decision to air these huge documentaries like they do. I'd love to know the reasoning for this. It has to be economic. If they leave it on demand for a couple months, I'll watch 30 minutes at a time here and there.

*my PBS is airing it Sun-Wed and then Sun-Wed the next week. Still too quickly in my opinion.

Mr.Inbetween. FX. This is an Australian series. I like it quite a bit. I like the characters and the situations. It's genuinely funny and not. I wonder if this is a typical major network series in Australia or if this is cable deal like it is here. Only 6 episodes per season? Is that common in Australia? I recommend it.

The first season of Carnival Row. It begins somewhat slower than I like, but picks up as the season continues. Some interesting enough characters, nice visuals, and a decent enough story. More entertaining than much of what is out there, but it won’t make my list of “Have to Watch.”

I didn't watch it but puddin' did and felt the same as you. Good but not must watch and she wad definitely holding her breath by the time the whole thing was over.

Watched the finale of Peaky Blinders series 5 last night, loved it. Many unanswered questions; it's going to be interesting to see where the next picks up. Plenty of scope for action and intrigue between late 1929 (I think) when series 5 closes, and 9 August 1940 when the creators want the final scene to be set. So far it appears at least two more series are definite.... (Series 1 started in 1919, while Series 5 starts with the Wall Street Crash in 29).

Now this is done, I'll be back to binging Vikings, I think.

I live for that show. We have a Hallowe'en medley of movies and shows starting up soon (though our girls will NOT be partaking of PD anytime soon!).

Just received the entire catalogue of Rob Zombie's movies to date (3 From Hell being released soon in theatres), along with the complete series of both The Addams Family and The Munsters!

Man, what a blast from the past! They are still looking for Carol's daughter, and Melissa McBride was just a recurring actor, her name not appearing in the opening credit sequence yet.

I followed the source material all the way until the end of the comic book. Loved it all, but one thing the TV series has done, imo, is give us more, stronger, female leads than that did. Carol is fantastic. I've recently been working my ay through the latter half of FTWD Season 4; also very good characterisation.

We too are not so fond of the lead actors, but with not much else out there gave it a chance. We enjoyed both actors much more than we thought we would.

I enjoyed the Ken Burns Country Music series a lot.

That said, I think it went a bit off the rails in the final episode. Why arbitrarily end in 1996? And why omit mention of important stuff that was happening at that time, like the ascension of Alison Krauss? The were important omissions earlier (like during the discussions of newgrass and bluegrass-adjacent music, nothing at all about David Grisman apart from mentioning his having been in Old & In The Way back in 1973), but they seemed to increase in the last ep.

But that's a minor complaint. Like most of Burns documentaries, it did a bang-up job, and while the length seemed excessive before it began, only rarely were there segments that seemed redundant or off-base.

A documentary on Lowell Thomas, the preeminent radio broadcaster, about whom I knew nothing. Quite a nice overview, featuring interviews with Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, the Dalai Lama, and a variety of journalism professors. Also, some radio historian who I thought I recognized, but her name turned out to be "McLeob."

More Vikings. I know it plays around with specific history a bit, but I'm enjoying the realism of the depiction of the culture. I especially have enjoyed the consideration of the clash between paganism and Christianity.

Poldark. PBS. This is the final season. Thank goodness. Not that I don't enjoy it on some levels, but what was once an above average soap opera is a full-fledged lower tier soap opera. The dialog is written at a 5th grade level. The editing or directing on this episode was awful. There's no easy movement from scene to scene. There's a segue of a stagecoach racing down the road, and it made me laugh. Standard scene for this show, but even it was sub-standard execution to the same sort of thing that is a dime-a-dozen in adventurist youtube drone footage clips. And if I have to sit through eight episodes of Morwenna freaking out every time Drake touches her, followed by the apology/you deserve better/I'm leaving scene, I'm the one who is going to have a meltdown. Can we PLEASE character develop and at least make a lazy effort towards resolution rather than do the same scenes over and over and over again in different costumes?

Preacher. AMC. series finale. I'd love to hear what the other Preacher watchers think.

Ha! Barely made it through ONE episode of this. Only watched it because a pen pal of mine begged me to years ago. She went on and on about how great it was and how I'd just LOVE it.
… I fell asleep ten minutes in. I've never looked back. But I've never liked soaps anyways.

The Durrells in Corfu. PBS. final season. first episode (only six this season). I'll miss this one. It's pure joy and beautifully shot. At times, it's a little thin in story, but I love all the characters. Genuinely wholesome and funny. The kid actors sprouted in-between seasons. I almost didn't recognize them.

Finished the last series of Corner Gas, followed by the Corner Gas movie. The Missus and I enjoyed it very much, kinda bummed it is gone...
We started The Mill, about young folks working in the linen mills of England around the 1830s. Grim, but we're interested.

Disenchanted Series 2 - arguably the best thing Matt Groenig has ever done; of his stable, only Futurama comes close.

Big Bang Theory - I missed most of Season eleven on television, so catchnig up on Netflix now. Still sharp on its observations of academia (particularly how childish and back-biting a lot of it can be), though it continues to feel like a show on borrowed time - as it has done since about season eight. The only thing less credible than Raj's relationships continues to be Penny and Leonard's relationship, which is only tolerable for how it facilitates the vastly more believable Penny / Sheldon relationship. I only wish they's split them up, but I know that, sadly, the ways of such a succesful American sitcom are that the show will only ever be allowed to do what the network believes is popular (hence the ending of How I met your stepmother, still the most disappointing television finale in the history of television. Or history.). It's a pity, because splitting up is the only thing they could do as a couple that would ring true. It would be a nice cap on the show to have Sheldon (with or without Amy) move back in with Leonard, and another highly unsuitable lady for Leonard move in across the hall into Penny's former apartment, with Leonard falling instantly and hopelessly in lust, and the whole cycle set to repeat itself.

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 - like having an old friend return. Very funny, captures the full camp and fun of the original films (well.... the later ones. The original Evil Dead is still genuinely creepy). I especially adore that they have resisted any and all temptation to have Ash grow or learn emotionally. Far too many good shows have been ruined over the years by an insistence on having the protagonists hug / share / learn.
