Another processing by Fleur of Penumbra hats, starting from an Italian hat made a few years ago
PenMugnai 6 R.jpg

This too, like Kent, is part of the same lot. The felt has a cold brown color, almost metallic and has a light consistency
PenMugnai 2 R.jpg

The felt finish has a slight hint of peach skin. Its original shape was fairly trivial and the ribbon too
PenMugnai 3 R.jpg

The shape is totally new, as is the ribbon with a bow taken directly from those used by Panizza.
The dimensions are as follows, with rough edges at 6.5 cm. the bashed crown is 11.5 cm. and the ribbon at 4.5 cm.
PenMugnai 5 R.jpg

The hat now has a purple lining and a leather sweatband and a new life to live in Verona
PenMugnai 1 R.jpg

This is the third collaboration with Fluer in Netherlands and I have to say I'm really happy.

The production of new European hats can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Needless to dwell on the reasons for this skimpy choice. Last year I gave credit to my intuition by buying three Tonak hats from the current production. I was largely satisfied, knowing beforehand I would have dealt with preformed hats.

This year I repeated the experience with two others, giving preference to the "suede" finish of which in Central Europe they have "exclusive" in terms of high quality

Tonak in dark brown, size 58 that fits perfectly. They are generous in proportions in the Czech Republic.
Ribbon and trim of the brim are of the same color of felt

Tonak felt is special for the current standards: medium or thick, they have a very interesting feel, very different from modern Italian hats, certainly lighter. The colors are very interesting as well as the surfaces, completely different, even when they are defined "suede"
The dimensions of this are: trimmed brim at 7 cm., creased crown at 11 cm. and ribbon at 3 cm.

Very interesting, in this I agree with Steve, the bill and the positioning of the tape and the bow.
The finishes are of medium quality
View attachment 187070
The only flaw are the shapes that are very similar to one another, but an hatter could supply "new" interpretations.
In USA you have Selentino brand that is the same producer, even if the variety are slightly different
Daniele, Great to see these current Tonaks. I agree about their design limits but the workmanship is high for the price point. If I lived nearby I would gone ahead with my project from 7 years ago.

The crew at The Brass Rooster brought this one to life for me. I had a basic outline of what I wanted and had them run with it. They've always been very good at interpreting my more abstract ideas and realizing them.

I think your project of seven years ago, that of making high quality limited edition hats is one of the pluses in the marketing of a company like Tonak. It could be one of the points to revive the brand. There would also be others, perhaps simpler and dedicated to a wider audience, but it seems that the lack of taste and planning is a constant of the current Tonak.
Probably the other market outlets (millinery and fez) you saw in your visit are sufficient to maintain a profitability for the company. I reiterate it is a real pity that there is not this other reality in the hat production sector in Europe.
You could always propose your project to the new property, maybe they are more sensible :)

Very nice, Daniele. Excellent work by Fleur as usual. The standout features are the ribbon and bow on this one.

BSHW golden longhair from a vintage felt. Got it from Garret, and Ignacio conformed it for me. I can't capture the beautiful golden hue, but Garret got really close with the first two pictures. Wonderful hat. Thanks, Garret!

As much as I like the European felts (vintage), I find the US hat styles and proportions pretty irresistible. Unfortunately such pieces are very rare here but Brent is such a generous and kind soul (read initiator) :)

Let's start with the twenties.

Knox twenty, camel with cav edge

Crown 12 cm at dent , brim at 7cm. Hand is wonderful.

Second.
Dobbs twenty, chocolate brown with cav edge

Crown at 11.5cm at dent, brim at 7cm.

Other than some minor stains on the liner or the wax paper both hats are in pristine condition.

A vintage electric hat stretcher (fully functional) that was found in the local market is shown ;)

Thanks Brent !!!

Fantastic hats, Panos. I think too that American style hats suit you very well. Love that vintage hat stretcher. Congrats on all three.
