Resistol Twenty Color Conundrum
I finally figured out what color is on the "rejuvenate" tag. It is "Titan"
That's the good news. Flip side, Titan is a straw color hat.
Should I pull the slip from the hat? It's possible that this gentleman took several hats for blocking, cleaning or whatnot.
Thoughts?
Also, in case the powers that be keep track of catalogs, I found a 2018 pdf file. What I found interesting, besides wish that what I had were cowboy hats, is the chart at the bottom is the Straw Hat Profile at the very bottom.
http://www.hat-co.com/perch//resources/s18-resistol.pdf

Thank you.

Here is my recent acquisition, a 50's Kitten Finish Beaver 20!!!!....REALLY GREAT SHAPE......6" crown.....BUT.........had the brim trimmed down (would have had a felted edge and 2 1/2 to 5/8 brim) at sometime to 2":(
Beautiful clean sewn liner with no tip protector.....no evidence at all of one....VERY CLEAN overall.....
Felt is awesome (very similar to my Stetson Twenty of the same time)....and even with the trimmed brim it has a great look....rather 20's-30's with the tall crown...narrow brim.
Nice wide sweat (2") with a wide read tape for a sweat barrier. Got it cheap......:)
With all that crown I gave it one of my special creases......;)

Don't think I ever added this to the thread. A couple of years ago my wife stood all day in the 95-deg. heat at an auction to buy it for me.

What can you tell me about this hat? I found one that's a XDoubleX but it's only a top view of the hat. The lady says it belonged to her late husband and she thought it was a 1960's circa but didn't know what kind of felt it was. She's supposed to get me more info.

My limited personal experience is that the 1960s XDoubleX hats are fur felt.

My XDoubleX is fur felt. The later ones are wool or wool blend and should be labeled as such (required since 1939) although the tags can be missing.

XDoubleX are Wool as far as I know , and not good .
Good to see you Michael!

My DoubleX Westerner OR clone is fur felt but not quite on par with my 3X & 5X SA's. It's a late one too with a black sweat. I would have left it alone except it was dirty so it got a steam bath & new crease. And someone had cut the ribbon tails off rather poorly so they got tucked under.

Yes, I have a 60's Dobbs labeled as a XDoubleX also, that is fur felt too and it is not too bad either......so I don't know. As Brent says I think a LOT has to do with vintage.....as I have seen recent wool ones.....

This is the only photo she had up. She's supposed to get me the info. Can you tell anything from this? After blowing it up, I'm thinking wool.

I’m not sure that anyone can tell definitively say it’s fur felt from that one photo. However, I don’t see anything that makes me think it’s wool either.
