Why not play it safer and go with a blue hat? That'll likely pair nicely with any hue of orange. Should be lots easier to find than an orange hat too.

I'm going through a bit of a dilemma.
I wear a lot of orange. I guess it's the runner in me, as orange running apparel is highly visible, and I don't want to get clobbered by a car while I'm out running across a road, or otherwise run during fading light.
Believe me, the motorists won't miss seeing you in this hi-viz.

It's not that I can't find orange hats online (and to the others who suggested blue/navy, I have about four already), it's that I can't trust the color rendering in the photos. I'd like to think they're accurate, but frequently I find the photography is stock, studio stuff and not truly representative. As a photographer, I can tell you that white balance and color space has a lot to do with faithful rendering. I see a lot of hat photographs online that I just know don't show the hat color properly.

I have a fluorescent yellow Nike jacket with black trim that is a favorite left over from my running days. I frequently travel with it as a rainy day option. I find a black beret (see our local thread for some great options from Daan) works very well with it. I'd have to say that my berets get more comments out in the world than any other hat from my collection. They fit many occasions and present more softly and kindly than a brimmed hat but clearly stand out as a hat that is not a ball cap. I have favorite hats for travel but no matter what I take, there is always a beret in the suitcase.

The saturation is subdued in this photo. The jacket is very bright.

I fall into the group that believes that 'standard' colors for fedoras fall into the gray, black, the brown family, silverbelly, and most of their variations.

My two favorite 'less common' colors are green and blue, especially green. Actually, my Hufvud is my favorite hat (in every way), hands down. I have gushed about it elsewhere on TFL, so I'll spare you here.

I have three greens. In alphabetical order - a vintage sage green John Cavanagh, a sage green Hufvud, and a moss green Penman. My two blue hats are a vintage navy blue Knox 20, and a heatherish medium blue Resistol (not pictured).

I had also been pondering something in the black cherry/cranberry/maroon family, but can't commit to anything yet.
