Don't buy a new jacket until you watch this

I've seen a few before, also on leather jackets - but I guess it's all for a certain type of audience who dig that kinda stuff. Just like any other internet celebrity, I guess. I mean, people are actually buying into that stupid Dan Biz... Whatever thing.

Tho that veins video is annoying! I've been working in a warehouse for three years now, lifting boxes all day and stuff and all I'm getting is skinnier... Damn gains!

Good ol' alpha m.

Massive, massive shill and he's making a ton of money doing it. Gets a lot of guys who don't care about their health to look more into that though, so probably still a net positive?

If leaning out to have SEXIER BICEP VEINS is what it takes to get people to lose weight, so be it. (disclaimer: no idea what he actually says in the vein video, completely assuming here. If he doesn't mention losing fat in a video about getting better bicep veins though I will be very surprised. )

I'm a subscriber to his videos on YouTube and I generally think they are fine. Some are a bit off the wall. He audience is younger guys who would like to up their game in both style and confidence. I can appreciate that. In particular, his Alpha M Project sponsors viewers.

The fact that this guy is trying to get 20 year old men out of baggy cargo shorts/logo t-shirts/flip-flops/baseball hats deserves respect, in my opinion. Just understanding how garments should fit is a big revelation.

I dare say that most of us are 40 year old men who, like me, can & will spend 2000$+ on a suit or leather jacket. We simply have more resources available. For a 20 year old man out of college and perhaps starting their professional career, their price points are much less, and available at the mall. You can find good clothing there -- if that is the price point you're after.

I often think about my own style evolution from ill-fitting mall suits to made-to-measure from high-end menswear shops. How many leather jackets did you own until you understood how they should fit? For me, the first time I bought a correctly fitted jacket was last year from Aero. I recently gave away my previously purchased leather jackets from about 5 years ago. They were so baggy it was comical.

Sorry that turned a bit more personal than expected.

I’m well over 40 and have never spent anywhere near $2,000 on a suit or jacket. If information on quality clothing is made available to young guys on a budget, it’s very possible to obtain quality items without spending big bucks.

On another note, my earlier post was deleted. So you can’t say d****e c***e but posting a cartoon of a cat’s rear end over a woman’s face is okay? Seems a bit heavy handed.

I just wish he would learn the difference between "price" (frequently used) and "price point" (seldom used unless referring to one of several prices charted on a graph). I am hearing price point used incorrectly more and more, and it is driving me nuts. OK, I admit it, I am an English nerd, and that's why it bothers me so much.

Some validity here but it’s precisely why if he had any clue as to what he was talking about he’d be recommending an eBay search for a $200 (high end of price) vintage Brooks or Brimaco CR, rather than a $500 piece of Kleenex from All saints. There is no escaping the fact that the author is not actually educated on leather jackets. Not even On a rudimentary level.
Even if you look past the trying too hardness of it all. It’s just plain ignorant to this hobby.

Exactly the point I was trying to make earlier. A $150 Brooks is better than anything this guy recommends.

I agree with ton312 -- the information on leather jackets is... non-existent in this video. It could have been made better to at least mention some of the high-end jacket makers.

I am mostly referring to the general education of men to ideas in correct style.

I should do some back peddling here as well. Price is not the sole indicator of quality.

Anyone read https://www.permanentstyle.com ?

In particular: https://www.permanentstyle.com/2019/01/how-to-wear-a-horsehide-jacket-armoury-x-real-mccoys.html

I think the main problem with sites/blogs like these is how they take the natural-ness out. It automatically becomes forced. Too calculated down to every little detail. In my view if the self scrutiny becomes so great that every small choice is in fear of judgement...it’s not a good look. It’s not natural or organic, fun or interesting and as such the essential “style” of it all is completely lost. Maybe I’m getting too heady here but by and large I can spot the difference from a mile away. You either carry it off. Or you can’t. You are just doing your thing or you are wearing a costume. Style is a sense of self, expressed in clothing. It’s impossible to fake that.

Rather than focusing exclusively on mall and designer brands I think this guy would be well advised to take a close look at Schott. They make jackets in damn near every style and with different models to suit every budget. And, unlike the jackets highlighted in his video, Schott makes real leather jackets.

Agreed! And you could easily find a place that sells Schott in most places in the world. The pricing of Schott is above what some of the prices in the video mention... but certainly if you can spend $600 on a jacket, you could stretch the budget a bit more and get one for $1000.

lol, I watched alpha m for the luls, the guy is funny, his friend he mentioned giving away his jacket to that antonio guy... that guy give fashion advice in a mannerism of giving annual speech in a board meeting or a funeral service, incredibly fake looking person
I feel bad for the gullible victims who bought those chinese watches though... why not just a seiko.

The problem is that any useful piece of information (be it about clothes or building muscles or whatever) can’t be obtained from watching a guy shouting cliches for 10 minutes. If you are 20 and wearing ill fitting clothes eh... I doubt this guy would you give an ounce of style.

Part of the problem I have with guys like this is the hyper masculinity from even the name Alpha M. Saying things like dress this way it’s sexy, makes you more of an alpha male, this will up your game. Doing x, y and z will make the ladies notice you. Only real men, and men with style know to do this or that. That makes it forced and a costume. Like @ton312 is kind of saying. It’s all calculated and all planned out. Everyone can and should have their own style. A guy who loves cross zips and wears them because they love them looks way more natural and “manly” than some guy who watches this video and says I need some All Saints cafe racer or cross zip because it’s part of “my manly” costume or some bs. There’s nothing more sexy or manly than a guy just being themselves and owning it. Anything else is just a costume or playing a part. Just be you.
