Yes, it is, Stefan. I am all excited. I got it from a French member in one of the FB groups, and it is arriving directly from France. I hurried up and made a generous offer before someone else did. It may have even arrived to the seller after someone else's, but as I said, the offer was generous.

That is an Alan level hat.

I use the phone numbers of childhood friends that I never forgot from way back then, so there is zero chance that I will ever forget them when I get older. That way, all I have to do is to name each safe. "Quique", "Ernesto", "Mundo", etc.

When archiving i’m ever reminded the immense knowledge base and wonderful collections we all have learned from and benefited from. Very humbling by comparison.

Even though I already have several burgs of that color scheme, I would have happily added that one to the collection had I the chance.
My only experience (to date) with Motsch is my Ecuyer and Thomas made for Motsch Fils and that one has spectacular felt, especially for a hat that I believe is about 40 or more years newer. I hope that yours is even nicer!
And, dangit, you made me have to go and make an offer on a Motsch Fils I've had on my eBay watchlist. Enablement by inspiration!

Okay, I need some wisdom. Help a young collector out, please. I know eBay backward and forward, but am not finding much there within my budget in 7 3/8 these days. I need help in finding hats elsewhere. I currently only have a handful of hats and the selection is not that impressive.

I've never seen a hat at any secondhand store despite looking many times in both Iowa and Utah (Goodwill, Stuff, Deseret Industries). At @Michael A's suggestion (thanks Michael!), I spent two hours today in a really cool vintage clothing shop I hadn't known existed in Salt Lake City and an antique shop, but found nothing but modern, wool Scalas. Since I learned this week that some of you can wear a different hat every day of the year, I'm starting to think I can't find anything because all the good stuff is already in lounge members' vaults.

However, since millions of men throughout at least the 1920s-60s wore something in the fedora family daily, I imagine there must be plenty more out there.

Will you gents who've mastered how to track down a classy hat please share some tips and sources? (it can even be in a PM if you don't want the world to know your secrets).

How about an emotional plea? *Cue sappy Sarah McLachlan song* Over the last few years, my hair has abandoned me. You wouldn't want me to get skin cancer on my head by my inability to find a hat, would you? You can be a hero today! [emoji120] Thanks, guys!

Hey Retro:
Easy way might be to put a WTB, want to buy, in the classifieds with your size, brand/style desired and maybe a price range. Have responders PM you for privacy.
That outta get you some hats that have passed muster.

Seven homburgs and a bowler.
Now and again I post hats in the new hats thread after I've been out looking for them. Yesterday was a day with a good amount of success, resulting in the title above. What I usually find (outside of the vintage shops) is something like this:

It may look like the harvest of one of @drmaxtejeda slow days

, but in fact it's loads and loads of stingy brimmed tapered crown hats dating from the seventies or eighties. Usually in smaller sizes. The blue bag on the right hand side underneath the stall held an equal amount of hats, maybe more. I know the owner and he dragged in a box of homburgs and bowlers. Now we're talking. I concentrated on the larger sizes. Only made one mistake and that was because I'm such a fan of T&W Lees hats. The hat from them I took with me was past their heyday. Not bad, but the proportions don't suit me. O well, all in all: happy. Work to be done though.
Here's what they looked like when I brought them home.
