Hi Loungers,

Am considering this pattern for my first Aero/Thurston jacket. I'm curious to see the tumbled pattern on different shades and cuts of brown. Does Aero/Thurston tumble a particular shade of brown only or are the variations wide and plentiful? Pictures are very welcome!

I've had brown fqhh (standard) and battered seal- only tumbled hide I've had is Aero's cordovan - which is just as great as the normal cordovan. In general, Aero's standard brown (and therefore also the tumbled version) has reddish tints to it and is a warmer colour than the battered seal, which is flatter and darker with a slightly waxier hand. They both look stunning- my Highwayman is in the standard brown and is now almost a decade old; it has huge variations from areas of wear to its old, solid colour under the collar.

@AlexB Your tumbled jacket has served as inspiration for this thread, looks fantastic.

Thanks! I have to admit I first was hesitant to go with the tumbled since I like everything about my normal CXL FQHH. However, after holding the tumbled jacket in my hands for the first time, I was completely in love with it!

Not sure if this is tumbled but it is a deep brown.

I was hoping my recent tumbled brown was similar to that more recent batch of real dark brown plain cxl aero has been putting out, but it was more your standard brown with reddish hues under certain light

Anyone with knowledge if tumbled brown is the same hide as Aero Brown CXL horse just put through an additional process? Same weight random section of stock to be tumbled?

I specifically asked this question to Aero and Carrie and the answer is yes. Handlung the leather supports these answers. Actually at some parts my “normal” jackets are softer and have more grain, however overall the jacket seems to be a little “softer”. However, this does not mean the jacket could not stand on its own[emoji28]

While wearing the jacket I have the feeling it contains more waxes. It almost feels like a Barbour/ Belstaff waxed jacket. Not sticky, but way waxier than normal CXL. It also softens up significantly more when getting warm from body heat.

You really did get your hands on an exceptional brown. Sometimes you can just tell when a leather likely won’t reappear. ^This is one of those times. I’ve had four brown CXL jackets and HD’s bootlegger was by and far away the prettiest. Yours looks very similar. The marbled nature on that will go full wood with wear.

I agree! I really missed the jacket while traveling for work during the week. I was flipping through the pictures of my own thread here [emoji28] When I got home I was welcomed by an apartment that smelled like fine CXL...

I'm hoping too, Iv'e just sent the fitting jacket back and am hoping for a nice deep brown CXL FQHH. dark seal vincenza is a guaranteed consistent dsrk brown, but CXL FQHH is what I really want, so I'm willing to accept the stock they have for the makings of my jacket...
