Doing things outside your norm can be disquieting to the psyche. You could try wearing it around the house first, looking in mirrors occasionally until it becomes more normal to you.

Took it out today on the windiest day all month but it stayed on nicely, fits like a dream and set my (30s, 40s) outfit off nicely.

So what did I discover? I was looking at the sweat and right there at the front of it says 'FEDERATION.' Yes, Federation, not Federation IV.

So it seems I have a first gen Federation, which would explain the difference in the dimensions of the crown, as compared to my other two Fed IVs.

So now I need to figure out what to do with it. Is it rare? Rare enough to keep? I don't keep hats I don't wear (well, that's not really true), but I know I won't wear it very often.

I was considering modifying it, as in, cutting the brim down, maybe an eighth all around, to more match the slightly slighter dimensions of the crown. Should I cut down a 1st gen Fed? Should I leave it alone? Should I sell it?

Even if I just left it be, I like (I think) to ponder the questions, and others like them. Anyone wanna ad anything, serious or ridiculous, or both, or neither?

I may have posted this elsewhere (although it belongs here), but I did cut down the brim of this hat, and then raise the front pinch, both 1/8 inch. These two small changes made all the difference. The hat is now 'wearable.'

How much did you trim off the brim? The proportions look great.

Thank you. 1/8 off of the brim, and 1/8 added to crown height.

Okay, a question.

The hat does look great. But it appears to be navy blue with a lighter blue ribbon. Fed IVs don't come in blue. What color is this hat?

Thanks! Actually the hat is black with a grey ribbon. I got it used, so I don't know if it's the original ribbon or how old the hat is. I'll get better pics and post them.
