US sellers will use GSP if they want to offload responsibility to eBay(regarding delivery not the item in itself) after the item leaves the US facility. I can clearly see why some of these sellers decide to use the service!

As I said my calculations tell me that after allowing for all costs, not just shipping, that I break even if not better off using the GSP.

Here's my "math" from personal experience.

A $400 USD almost new Schott bought private sale thru the forum and coming from St Petersburg Russia arrives here in Perth Western Australia with Australia post on my doorstep at dead on $580 AUD (including "family & friends" paypal) .

A $385 USD new jacket from ebay/paypal , coming Global shipping , is $696.80 AUD. It's all plus plus plus..

So a jacket that is $15 USD LESS to buy is actually $116.80 AUD MORE under eba/paypal/GSP

Was the item from Russia declared at its full value? Did you pay any custom/import fee on it?

I keep looking at all GSP items on eBay and I can’t see anything dodgy.

At the end of the day, like with all matters, we drive our own conclusions. I just can’t see anything unfair with the GSP prices on a like for like comparison.

If you buy private and mark the item as a gift etc etc then yes of course it’ll be cheaper than GSP.

Can it be that your country applies different tax rates to new vs used goods?

I’m just a bit skeptical about your comparison, I can’t see the break down of costs clearly and it’s a bit vague. Professional bias...

Just take an item shipped using GSP on eBay NOW and calculate the import charges yourself. That’s the only fully reliable check imho.

Lol I really need to get back to work now :D

Clear as a bell mate. Those are straight lifts from ebay listed items for sale. ( I bought both jackets !)

For reasons unknown to me some US sellers can list and state USPS airmail post quotes and some can't or won't.

they are then "Auto calculated" using Global Shipping Programme.

If the guy sends USPS then by default the post cost is less.

What may differ is that Australia Post take over from USPS here , not the third party carrier as you describe
From what you guys wrote, this is what I see UK vs Aus
1) Parcelforce UK is the local post in UK
2) The local post in UK charges a GBP12 handling fee (that's for helping you to declare to custom) on top of the duties while the GSP does not (GSP probably uses a rate in stead of a fixed handling charge).
3) the fixed handling charge of the local post could blow the whole thing out of proportion if the item price is low.

Yes that’s correct, Parcel Force UK is just a branch of Royal Mail dealing with international parcels. They pay upfront for you the custom charges and they charge a fixed £12 handling fee on top of the custom charges you have to pay to them before they can deliver your parcel.

In UK all things from outside the EU (probably from the EU too shortly) valued above £35 (value of item + postage costs) attracts tax (being VAT 20% plus over £100 and something import duties depending on the nature of the goods).

The past couple of years I haven’t had a single parcel getting past without being hit. GSP or not I’ve gotta pay!

I haven't been back to England for more than 20 years. Back in the days, I could bring almost any brand new goods e.g. clothing, watches etc with me and the custom did not care unless they see a brand new computer or TV. I suppose nowadays, one can only bring up to GBP390 worth.

I received three jackets this year from overseas sellers on was from FL classifies. I did not have to pay any import taxes. All three jacket were posted by the sellers.
I use the ebay international posting system because I do not want to be responsible was delivery overseas. If an active FL member wanted to purchase from me I would post myself.

My experience has been I've had three items I've bought from the US to the UK dissapear into the Global Shipping Program. I got my money back eventually but what a dissapointment. One of them did show up on Ebay a few days later not that far from where the tracking last had it in the US.

So that and the fact the cost always seems way over what it should be mean I've got to realy want something if the seller is using the Global Shipping Programme.

Em , yes it is ! Just 2 extremes is all ! In one case maxing out the potential savings on a true private buy.

Remembering Global shipping IS NOT cheaper whatever way you look at it , see the ebay sale page lift shown earlier
