Bumped. MS summer 1957 catalog. Here are the Stetson pages (I know, I’m biased) but I will happily post others if they’re wanted.
Stetson’s Very Best (notice 20, 25, 4x, 5x, and 7x designations all on this page. The 5X is $40 but not listed as ‘Clear Silver Beaver Color’ like the pricier 7x)

The Horseman lists a Belgian Beaver color. Anyone have an example or know what color tone that might be?

Notice, though, it says Clear Silver Beaver "Color." Nothing about quality or fur content.

Although it is described as 'light sand' in the catalogs, it was probably something like this;
As far as I know, Belgian beavers weren't/aren't a different color from other European beavers, so the mention of 'Belgian' in the color may be based on Belgian linen canvas, well known in the high end art world, which is usually that greyish tan color. I suppose that in 50's America, 'Belgian' sounded exotic & no one knew where belgium was, anymore than they do today.

Every time I hear "Belgian" used a color descriptor I tend to think of the Belgian draft horse. They come in a variety of colors but the most common is something like this or a variation of the shade.

I read through here but wasn’t able to pinpoint an exact date for the name change from stockman farmer to miller stockman. Looks like after 1940 but before 1946. Does anyone know the exact date?
Edit: Nevermind I think I missed a page on my first read - 1940 Stockman farmer 1943 Miller stockman that’s close enough for me.

Why i was originally highlighting that part was I had thought Stetson dropped the 5x to be replaced with the 7x (assuming they were both CB quality) but then they also have the 3x and 4x also mentioned in there too so now I’m really screwed up!
