And the balance: Nullarbor Tan Bushman, Moonstone Bushman, Black Federation IV, and the good ol' Carbon Grey Stylemaster.

Evening Gents - I just got my silver belly Campdraft (ordered on Monday and got it on Saturday...pretty awesome!) and I am really enjoying it. I’m pretty reliably a 60 in all other hats and this hat fit very nicely right out of the box. I even found it to be a little more long oval than my Stetsons or Selentino (which I’m pleased with). The brim is quite stiff and has a satisfying “thump” when snapped down or up. I got the regular felt version and handling the crown almost feels like clay. I have been having a great deal of fun seeing which creases look best. All in all, I am thrilled with my purchase and will definitely be making another Akubra purchase soon. I can’t decide though between a Fed IV, a stylemaster and a squatter though. Anyone have any preferences between those 3? I realize they occupy very different areas of a spectrum but would love to get some thoughts!
Sorry for the late reply. Great first choice, wear it in good health. I found once I went open crown, pre creased didn’t have the same appeal. So the style master would be out for me. I have both the squatter and federation. Squatter is a lower crown with wider brim. federation is an Indiana Jones hat. So my Federation gets a lot more head time. it’s really a personal decision. Honestly I would have difficulty deciding between a factory produced hat to a custom rabbit nowadays. They seem to be roughly $100 difference. my two cents worth.

Bluegrass Green, Moonstone (Camp Draft Deluxe), and Silver Belly.
That silverbelly looks great and I’m jealous. I got one in Heritage grade about a year ago, and while I got the crown exactly how I wanted pretty quickly, I’ve been fighting the damn brim for 11 months and losing.

The flange/cupping on it is ridiculously excessive and I’ve tried everything short of using an iron on it (which I’m not keen on doing) to no avail. So frustrating.

Thank you for the compliment on my Silver Belly CD! Interesting that you're having trouble with the brim on your Heritage Silver Belly CD - I am still trying to get my Heritage Moonstone CD's brim to behave consistently. I had the opposite issue: not enough flange... just too flat. I very patiently work the brim dry with my hands, and it is moving in the right direction. I was prepared to use distilled water, but I don't think I'll need to.

Good luck with your Silver Belly! Just tell that brim who's boss.

I have the same issue with my moonstone heritage. I haven’t taken the iron to it yet but I’m not reluctant to, although it seems like the binding is going to stop it from flattening out as much as I would like it to.

I'm thinking of either a Fed IV or a DM Adventurer in Moonstone. Any thoughts? I think I prefer the slightly smaller brim on the Fed IV, and the lower price of the Fed IV coupled with the free shipping deal from Hats Direct might be the clincher, but both hats are appealing.

No, I'm not gonna buy both.

Not yet, anyhow.

I keep looking at the DM Adventurer in Moonstone. I like the ribbon and bow treatment against the Moonstone. If I could only figure out what it looked like without that Aussie downward swoop in the back brim...

I agree regarding the ribbon on the Adventurer. And I go back and forth on which brim I prefer.

I can't imagine! All of my Camp drafts were very easy to shape. Although, I like the cup, and it is what I like about CDs. All of mine are in a cattleman crease. I steam out some of the cup in front. I can see why the binding may prevent a flat brim. A spray of distilled water, followed by steam, is all I have needed.

The answer is Fed IV. The Adventurer is just more brim than I want on a fedora. The Adventurer brim is bigger than the Campdraft in front and almost as big on the side (if I’m calculating correctly), and I think I’d actually prefer the Campdraft proportions for a larger-brimmed fedora/semi-fedora.

I’m partial to the Bushman, but would prefer another 1/2” of crown. The larger brim looks “right” on my big head (62cm in Akubra). If you’re looking for a dress hat then I’d agree with the smaller brim.

The Bushman is a nice hat. But I’m pretty well covered (no pun intended) with wider brimmed hats at the moment.

It’s interesting that the Bushman has a lower crown and wider brim than the Campdraft, and the DM Adventurer has a lower crown and wider brim than the Fed IV. Obviously someone at David Morgan likes that type of proportion.

I've got a lot of love for the Fed / Adventurer hats. Everytime I visit Delmonico's hatter, I try one of their Adventurer's on. But they're just too much hat & brim for me.

Without being able to try one on; I suspect that the Campdraft would have the same appearance on me. One of these days, I'll get one used to try out.

But for now, the Stylemaster hat is just right for me.

I have the same. But nothing wrong with the Stylemaster. It's one of my favourite hats.
