Second hat with a "special" felt
View attachment 197668
Borsalino Qualità Superiore size 6 or 59 cm. or 7 3/8 US
View attachment 197673
One of the strangest Borsalino in my collection, usually these are felts that the Cappellificio Cervo produced
View attachment 197674
Felt is a dark green with straw-colored inserts, but it is not marked "misto" as some might suppose
View attachment 197675
The color is "Brughiera" and the ribbon "Ombù". I have to be honest the first time I see a similar denomination of the ribbon and I think another time I saw a hat with this kind of green (Brughiera)
View attachment 197676
It was sold in Torino, around forty years ago
View attachment 197677
The felt is very consistent and despite appearances it firmly maintains the shape
View attachment 197679
The dimensions are as follows: brim at 5.5 over welted cm. the open crown is at 13 cm. and the ribbon is 3 cm.
Borsalino of the "bizarre" series
Daniele, The ribbon + felt effect is very unique + fantastic! Super find!

Thanks Steve, Marcel and Bill
This Borsalino is an example of how the search for the right combination of felt and ribbon is fundamental beyond the height of the crown or the width of the brim. This has the proportions of a typical European hat, but the style is unique. I believe the inspiration and perhaps also the making of the felt are to be attributed to the Cervo factory who was a master in this type of "misto", however honor to Borsalino

Very cool find, Daniele. Not an everyday hat I'd imagine, but striking in appearance. The proportions are solid though.

Found this one yesterday.
Borsalino Trionfo in morello colour, which is a very dark brown with some cherry tones to it. Size 57 with the overwelt brim at 4,8cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Longhaired finish and the hand of the felt is spectacular. Don't see many Trionfo line Borsalinos in the vintage stores here. The label indicates a late sixties to mid-seventies hat.

Borsalino Export Qualität homburg in mirtillo. Size 55 with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown 10cm at the pinch. Still looking for a Borsalino Mirtillo homburg for myself, but this one isn't it (dammit). It's just too small for me (close, but not close enough). Mid-sixties to mid seventies, made for the German market. My guess would be that this one still sixties.

Just thought I'd show you this hat for archival reasons, since it's a model we have not seen before. I would have liked to have added this one to the collection, but the seller's price was just not within reason (at least not to my standards; your results may vary). So, this one is not mine, but here it is anyway.
Borsalino Iransti in misto grisfer nutria felt (we've not seen that before either). Some taper to the crown of this model by the looks of it. Bow seems to be either a shark gill or a boxpleat. Label dates it to the 1936-1953 period.

Nice Homburg Stefan. Pity it didn't end up on your head. Borsalino are like Rolex, even people with no idea about hats or watches know them. Most Borsas I find here are rarely below the 200€ range :(

Thanks, Panos. I'll admit I sold quite a few less interesting hats to that kind of crowd. It's just not a price I'm comforatble with considering the amount of hats I already have.

It would have to be a very special, very early Borsalino with quite some provenance before I'd pay €200 for one.

Hatsanta saw fit to include an additional hat to accompany the Stetson Flagship on its journey across the ocean. And what a passenger it was! A huge thank you again to @M Hatman for sending me this one as an extra hat in the transatlantic hat-exchange: a total surprise but an extremely pleasant one.
Borsalino Torino in black. Size 57 with the felted edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Made especially for Maurice Rothschild&Co. Very lightweight at 89 grams and exquisitely soft. The hand of the felt is awesome.
So thanks again, Mark.
