What was the last TV show you watched?

My brother was watching season four of Mr. Selfridge which I recall being discussed back in the day. Quite intrigued over a couple of episodes, so wanted to start afresh. So, Netflix Canada has season four.

Just season four.

Not season one.

Not season two.

Not season three.

Just season four.

And people ask us why we miss our video store...

Probably a rights issue - is there some other channel in Canada that has shown / is showing / is about to show it?

If Amazon are paying attention, they'll put the DVD on sale...

I just finished two series onlnie this last week. One, Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - outstanding. Very, very funny; managed to create a happy ending for all characters that wasn't just about being rich and/or in an ostensibly happy relationshpi, but being personally fulfiiled, and which also rang true. Two, Man in the High Castle. Wonderful. Minus half a point for the unnecessarily vague final scene (smacked more of lazy writing than anything 'profound'), but otherwise a superb, fitting and 'true' ending for all characters. John Smith's final speech is perfect, and even Inspector Kato, previously a wholly irredeemable character, shows his human side and is - surprisingly - sympathetic at the end. Well done, Prime.

Binged over a couple of day the first season of Frontier. What a fun show this is! We learned about the fur traders, mainly the couriers du bois in Quebec, but I have a new found appreciation for the Hudson Bay Company (HBC or simply "The Bay"), which went from owning two thirds of what is now Canada into a department store chain.

Jason Momoa, Alun Armstrong, Alan Hawco (my wife's dreamboat from Republic of Doyle), lots of others. On to season two, and season three just dropped!

I found Peter Gunn on Amazon and started watching. I’m not sure how l have missed such a great show till now. Craig Stevens and Lola Albright have great on screen chemistry. Cool detective, great jazz music and lovely ladies makes for a winning combination in my book.

Ran out of things to watch so we are revisiting "Homeland". Gave up after season 5 as we tired of her stupid shit. Well season 6 nothing has changed...she is still out there doing stupid shit but the story lines and characters other than hers are worth a watch...…...so far.

My boyfriend recently found out that I had never watched Breaking Bad, so we just spent about a month powering through it and followed up with the El Camino movie. Like most other AMC shows, I was thoroughly entertained. Minus the females of the show, most of which I found to just be insufferable. Throughout watching it, I kept thinking of how Jesse Pinkman dresses and had the sudden realization that my brother and my cousins all dressed exactly like him when we were growing up. It's just weird watching it after the fact and going "yup that looks like the young adults/teens I remember from those years".

1st episode of season 3 of "Goliath". We enjoyed the first two seasons, but Billy Bob may get one more chance/episode and then unless it improves I'm done.
Weirdness a la the last season of "Mad Men". Disappointing.

Yesterday I got an email from Hagerty (classic car insurance) telling me that I could get Motor Trend TV Streaming for free for 1 year if I CLICK HERE!

So, although it is very unlikely for me to do such things, I did click there.

Now I have begun to watch Top Gear from the very first show almost 20 years ago. This should keep me busy for a while, at least I get up to about 2 years ago when they got three all-new presenters, one of whom, M. Matt LeBlanc, I can take or leave, usually the latter.

My wife and I enjoyed season 3 of Golitah. It was a little slow at first but it ties all of the previous seasons together. I have to say Patty Solis-Papagian is one of my favorite characters.

The Chaperone. Masterpiece/PBS films. Elizabeth McGovern from Downton Abbey as lead. She doesn't play the chaperone character all that much differently, either. Also an otherwise notable cast, though Haley Lu Richardson as the support isn't much of an actress in this. As you'd expect, this was a mostly wholesome film from PBS, but it also challenged a few social issues. I enjoyed it. It's definitely worth watching, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.

I watched the first ten minutes of that and gave up on it. It just seemed bland and bogus. And Elizabeth McGovern has always been more of a beauty than a skilled actress, going all the way back to Ordinary People.

I binged the new season of The Crown last week. It took me a while to warm to Olivia Colman's different-from-Claire Foy take on Elizabeth, but I think Helena Bonham Carter's probably the current series MVP as Margaret. I still think the series is frequently too opulent for its own good, going for spectacle over subtlety, but it's awfully watchable.

You'll doubtless make many fascinating discoveries - not least that, prior to its 2002 relaunch, Top Gear was actually a show about cars (rather than a pantomime pub bore and his sniggering, dullard side-kicks). Started on the BBC in 1977; some will say the rot set in when Clarkson arrived in 1988, but the 2002 revamp turned it into a totally different beast than it had ever been before.

Yes, the women were insufferable but the men in the show were pretty much the same level of insufferability.

Running out of things to watch on Netflix so got around to watching 'London Spy'. A very good cast and the usual great acting from the Brits BUT damn the plot was a train wreck. Only 5 episodes and it sucked me in and didn't turn stupid until the 3rd episode so by then I had to find out how it ended. Should not have bothered as it tipped the implausibility scale over on its side.

Watched the final episode of the new BBC three part mini-series War Of The Worlds. The story has been reworked for a 'modern audience' so therefore has, for example, a female main character and deals with issues such as the European colonisation of Africa and religion. It is still set in late Victorian England.

I found the show plodding and the ham acting, especially by Raff Spall, testing. The design of the Martian was, in my opinion, especially poor and uninspired.
