It’s not any help, but I for one don’t know.
I have seen it called cotton tape slotting, but that is more of a description than a name.

An interesting hat... look forward to your thoughts and photos when you receive it. Special makings like this are hard to date from the parts. The rondel would suggest post-war 1940s-1950s. The decorative perforated sweatband made a brief appearance in Stetson hats during the late 1930s-early 1940s and then again in the 1960s. Perhaps an older fancy sweatband was used to dress up this presentation hat. Keep us posted.

Someone else had a presentation hat to a PA governor a while back. As I recall it was a skinny ribbon Western Nutria. I don't recall the governors name however. I would imagine there were a lot of PA politicos who got presentation hats in the day.

5 1/2" open crown, 3" brim
I was actually prepared to be underwhelmed with this example, as my Stetson 100 is also a 60's model. While it has a fine and soft hand, the felt somewhat stiff in terms of pliability. This hat has a stiff brim that held its shape during the trip despite literally zero packing material save for a plastic bag (at least this seller chose an adequately sized box). The crown on the other hand is very soft and has that clay-like feel. Simple two ply band treatment. There is a bit more roll in the brim than is to my tastes, definitely looks like a 60's hat. Nudging it back to what seems like the factory crease leaves it looking not unlike the modern pre-creased cattleman. Square black tag did not survive the trip intact in the hat. Long lost member Rodkins posted one with the same liner earlier in the thread. I assume these came after the gold crest liner as this design is still in use in some Hatco Stetsons. A generous size 7, as is my 100.
I think this one would do well for a full refurb. The sweat has popped a few stitches in the front, but seems salvageable. Some light staining, but even considering that I'll be sinking some more money into it, I am quite satisfied for a <$100 BIN.

The Senator Sordoni 7X Clear Beaver arrived. A bit more stress. The sweatband was held in place by thick, double-sided tape. I tried carefully to remove it but still tore the red inventory tag. The red tag has three blocks for “Block Depth Finish,” which I believe is a 1930s tag.
The hat will eventually reach Ignacio for a cleaning; I may flip it inside out as well to hide two big moth bites and external stain.
Here are the pics, along with some of the original sale pics that are better than mine. I also included a pic of a quick dry telescope I put on to illustrate the malleability of the felt.

I would, Ross and it's the 3x6 with the 3 ply ribbon, front left in the last pic. They're all great hats in their own right but that hat's dimensions rank among my favorites. The similarity in the finish of the hats is what i really enjoy. Super fine on all of them but IMO the Canadian has the softest, most malleable felt of the bunch and finished with a great attention to detail. All but the Canadian have stiff brims.

The 3x6 is beautiful, love the felt tone and ribbon on that one (especially on the last pic). Interesting point on the Canadian felt, thanks for the observations!
