A bit late to the dance. We swim in a sea of mould….it is everywhere in the air. Mold requires moisture and a food source and while cement does not provide the food source the cement can be a collection point for airborne things that mold can use as food. All then that is required is water or moisture and voila you have mold accumulating on a cement surface.

I’m wearing my Nick’s packers today. Still working on getting them broken in. They put too much pressure on the bone on the inside of my ankle, requiring alternative lacing to relieve pressure there. I’ve never had this problem with any other boot, and I really hope it resolves with wear.

Hey All! Also posted this in Footwear to go with our jackets wasn’t sure which of these two threads got more views. So Im a member of several vintage and heritage boot Facebook groups. Recently have been seeing these pop up. Hell of a name they have. Named after their favorite part of the animal, the best parts for boot-making.
They are located in the Netherlands, built in Portugal. Ive been hearing such great feedback on the groups Im in. They say stitching/construction is better than a Wolverine or Red Wing, Thursday, Oak Street etc...and very comfortable out of the box.
The price point is whats holding me back on grabbing a pair at the moment. After conversion comes out to like 440 dollars. More than most "Heritage" makers or niche boot companies. But not nearly as much as most Whites, Nicks, Lofgrens, RMC, Role Club and those sorts.
Going to keep my eyes open for any up on Ebay or Grailed. If any boot collectors here have had any I would love to hear your feedback

Pulled the trigger on a pair of the Red Wing Irish Setter 894s to replace my worn out 877s that I've been wearing to work a lot. $125 to get the 877s resoled less than a year ago (by Red Wing) and they came back to me in worse shape than I sent them off in. A website called Supercasuals had the Irish Setters on sale for $159, and since my job is rough on a pair of boots I thought I'd give them a try for the price.
Someone just posted this photo in one of the FB groups I’m in. A few month old pair of Butts and Shoulders I’ve been contemplating for days and just mentioned earlier today. The natural leather has started to darken. They do look awfully nice. But for 100 more I could have a pair of Whites or Nicks. Ahh the choices and dilemmas haha.

That heel separation seems to be common for Red Wing boots, at least when they’re used for work. I had two different pairs of Red Wing loggers in my younger days, and both pair separated like that before the original soles were worn slick. Red Wing wasn’t interested in helping me out, so no more Red Wings for me!
Drywall screws run down through the insole and into the heel held the boots together until I wore the soles out, at least.

I might give that a try. It seems like something that could be repaired, but Red Wing nor any of the shoe repair shops I've found here locally are up to the task. It seems a shame to just pitch them in the trash.
The boot groups I mention above have some cool people who own shops on there. Two that stand out to me to maybe look up that are capable of doing some things you may want are Sole Man in Buffalo NY. It appears he does more dress shoe repair though. And Northern Republic who it appears specialize in boot repair out of Minnesota. If shipping isn’t an arm and a leg I would Facebook and google them and see if it’s worth it. I’ve been checking their stuff out and it all looks great! But again depending on costs maybe not worth it, but can’t hurt to look into it.
