Had another one waiting for me on the porch when I got home last night. An Open Road with Embroidered Liner

Very nice! Quite possibly a local hat. I'd keep the liner covering myself.

Had another one waiting for me on the porch when I got home last night. An Open Road with Embroidered Liner I’ve been looking for. Working on it with Coffee this morning before going outside for a Brake Job on the Wife’s car.

Had some spots on it and the sweat is a little fragile, but got it for the liner. I think I have most of the spots out and steamed it back to open crown.

The onion skin liner cover is very yellow and I hate taking away from the fabulous embroidery. Are there any concerns with removing the onion skin ?

Good find. The onionskin covering of the crown patch is supposed to be yellow in colour (at least we think so, since we've never seen a transparant one of the same material). We don't even know if these were just for protection of the liner while the hat was in the store or that they were supposed to be permanent. They do become brittle and are prone to tear and break over time. You could take it out now; it's your hat after all. I tend to leave them in if they're not torn.

Thanks Stefan.

Yeah, I’ve got a few hats with them that I left, but I just hate covering up the embroidery. It seems I do have a clear one, I’ll have to look through my hats and see....

This one is in Springfield, Missouri. Seems like there might have been one in Columbia or St. Joseph as well.

Thanks for the research, I love that stuff !

Well I went ahead and removed the onion skin, it was very brittle and starting to tear anyway. Got it all cleaned up and a simple bash for now. I think I’ll keep the brim flat on this one and maybe even try a pencil curl, since I wear my 7XCB with the brim turned down.

It’s a size big for me, but I just put some felt under the sweat and it’s perfect.

Picked up the Nutria Quality yesterday and pulled it out of the freezer this morning.

The hat is in excellent condition. The white build up on the sweat cleaned right off with a rag and a bit of leather conditioner.

3” bound brim 6” open crown with a 3 ply ribbon

Steamed, brushed, re-bashed and I’m a happy camper

Thanks DD, I didn't know we where the same size. I will keep that in mind maybe some time down the road we can talk trade, don't pretend you don't have your own stable of desirable hats! :)
