So guys, what do you think?

I'm more of a writer than a photographer.
I thought you were a retired photographer?

Hard to tell much from just one angle but generally on a 4" brim if you want it to have less of a dimensional brim guitar pick look then you want the fenders to be more of a gentle roll & less of a break, like coming off a wave in the flange. You also want to end the roll farther back along the sides & not so far forward, for a more rounded look in front. Too far back & too hard of a break on the fender & you end up with a shovel nose. Unless of course you like either the guitar pick or shovel nose look. Too much packer draw, swoop & break, & you end up with the flying nun look.

I see what you're saying. I was going for the shovel on the front, but now that I see your hats, I may back it off a little. Thanks for the input, just what I was looking for.

Sorry about the photographer comment. With the two posts back to back over the image flip I just glanced & thought the original post was from thundurchaser.

Greeley Hat Works ebay find took the scenic route, but finally arrived. 6.5” open crown and 4” brim. Made in 2003 and in mint condition.

The good:
1. That felt is soft, at least as soft the the current Royal De Luxe Open Road, albeit thicker.
2. The hat is a generous 7 5/8 and an Extra Long Oval too boot!
3. It came in a good quality case.

The bad:
1. It’s not beaver as the seller claimed. It’s part of the “Classic” line and it’s rabbit and/or hare.
2. The band is not a style that I care for at all. These felt bands with buckles just look cheap to be.
3. The shape of the brim is not something I’d wear. Luckily, this is easily remedied.

The felt is lighter than any silverbelly I’ve seen. It most closely resembles Winchester’s bone. Here’s the hat next to a 1950s Open Road in silverbelly:

I was in Sisters OR last August and Greeley Hat Works had a trunk show at the local western wear shop. I liked his selection of felt colours but damn his prices were high.....incredibly high.

Yeah, I wouldn’t consider one new. A $100 used custom is a different proposition. Heck, the case alone is worth almost half of what I paid.

Not my favorite of hats you got lately, but certainly has good bones for modification. And seems to have been one heck of a deal!!!!! ESPECIALLY with the case!!! Nice find!

So many possibilities with that beauty Brent. I came across a Greeley hat in the thrift store the other day and was impressed by the finish. Unfortunately, it was a size 8 so definitely not for me. It was stamped: "Made Especially For The Cranially Endowed". You gotta love a hat maker with a sense of humor.

Good catch on the hat. I HATE to change a hat from the original style, no logical reason for that though. That said, I would be changing the brim as soon as I could. I don't like that style, I live in Oklahoma and it seems to be THE style for the Rodeo set.

That looks like a very smooth felt if nothing else and the color is appealing.
