wow antarctica awesome,, but i would take more than berets, i have sailed around the bearing sea to priviloff island and russia , it is friggen cold hats dont work that great i had a full coat and fur lined hood also layers of clothing is the best, take alot of pictures take careMy trip to Antarctica is only weeks away. Big decision, which berets to take with me.
I do feel the Boneteria Auloronesa in black and rust red is the way to go.

I reacquired a 10p Bonteteria Aotearoa by Manufacture du Beret in Bordeaux.
The color is a deep wine.
These berets are truly the work of dedicated artisans.
A good landing place for my coat of arms badge for Lyon, France.

A sentimental moment this morning, having my last morning coffee in my faithful Adirondack chair on the deck of our Ngaio home (Beret HQ in the background) - no house I have lived in for longer or happier. A Reality Shield in the shape of an other old faithful, my Super Lujo in Caqui only has a limited effect on melancholia...
As yet, the future is a bit unclear, with a rental home in the meantime and the berets in a professional storage in town, but confident something good will come out of this.
Unfortunately, there is more reason for melancholia, which has all to do with the aforementioned Super Lujo.
Orders from Boinas Elósegui have remained unfulfilled for over 6 months, emails and phone calls remain unanswered and stock is running very low. Friend/colleague/competitor Ron Greer has already sold out of many models and if no changes very soon, I face the same disaster.
Hard to believe there could be coming an end to this 162-year-old and only remaining Spanish beret factory, but all evidence points in that direction. It makes for a pretty sad sales pitch, but if you are keen to own (another) real Elósegui: order now!
On a more positive note, this week on SPECIAL the Chasseur Alpin Original; a limited supply from $92.50 @ $72.50!

I've been wearing berets for quite a while - that photo is from around 1981. It was Sheldon Brown who got me into a higher quality item. The news about Boinas Elosegui not fulfilling orders or communicating is distressing because it shows there is something amiss.
Elosegui has an active presence on Instagram that is primarily focused on fashion with people wearing berets or storefront displays featuring berets.
The postings show a professional level of execution.
So, they are trying to sell berets.
I hope for the best for Elosegui.

French president Emmanuel Macron honors the thirteen French soldiers who died in a helicopter accident in Mali. The thirteen were killed in Operation Barkhane, in which the French army, together with soldiers from Niger, Chad and Mali, fought against armed jihadist terror groups in the Sahel.
And yes, the Chasseurs wear their "Tarte", even in the heat of the Sahel dessert.

While the situation on Boinas Elósegui remains very unclear, the opposite is true for TONAK/FEZCO.
FEZCO established 154 years ago, in 1865 and grew massively from the production of fezzes, in the heydays of the Ottoman Empire. And it is only a small step from fezzes to berets…
Novi Jicin (now in the eastern part of the Czech Republic) is the center of the Czech hat industry, dating back to the year 1630. The mechanized production of fur felt hats started in 1865 by hatter Johann Nepomuk Hückel, who two years later started the company J. Hückel & Sons. This name was kept until the private company was nationalized into a state-owned enterprise (under then communist rule).
These days TONAK is one of the world's largest manufacturers of headgear and berets still take a prominent role in TONAK's assortment.
Evidence of the beret's popularity in former Czechoslovakia is evident in many movies and photo-libraries and of course the beret was made immortally popular thanks to children's animation series Pat and Mat.
And in 2019 too, the beret is still a standard sight in many of the Bohemian, Moravian and Slovak villages.
This week on SPECIAL at South Pacific Berets, the fantastic Czech Classic – no better every-day-wear beret @ $29.50 only (as long as stock lasts…).

Today stepped on the seventh continent at Brown Bluff. Wearing the go-to beret my Boneteria Auloronesa. Kept the head nice and warm throughout the tour. Our guide said that there is an estimated 250,000 penguins in the area.
Next on today’s agenda is the helicopter ride.

Spending the end of the year at our beach house in Waikawa, an hour's drive north of Wellington and a whole world away from many bits that we call civilisation.
Lovely weather, sun and sea but, not unlike Wellington, there is always the wind. And it struck me today that, despite my fondness of some certain French made berets, there is no beret that stays on as well as boina Super Lujo, even in a 120km/hr gust of wind (trust me, I know!).
And despite these being some of the best berets for winter weather, it is the perfect beret to keep my head cool and protected from our harsh sun and wind.
Sad to say that prices of the Spanish Basque berets will go up next month, so if keen, best to buy now.

It's been a while since I last visited. Though, I do wear hats and berets daily—berets more often than not. This Aotearoa Txapeldun (thank you Daan) has been getting a good bit of wear time as one of my foul weather berets. From the looks of me, I still haven't woken-up from my hour and a half bus ride.
Dang, sorry to hear about Elosegui. I sure hope they recover. The Año 1858 is one of my favorites. If I'm dressed up, that beret gets the call.
