I am considering ordering some custom Selvedge jeans from Luxire, but I am not sure how to size. What I want are cut like a 1940's early 1950's style. I suspect they have a higher rise, but as I don't have a pair, I am not sure how to provide measurements. I have current 501's. Is there a 'rule of thumb', numbers that you can add to contemporary 501's that you fit, allowing you closely approximate the fit of the older styles?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know much about jeans etc so I can't help on the measurements. But I would recommend that after you have got the measurements sorted out, you send them photographs to show the style you are looking for. Strong period images will help.

Re-visiting the topic on vintage jeans. I suppose there are dedicated forums for denims & jeans & questions like fit has been answered to death, but I only want to stick to this one forum so here I go.
just got a pair of Stronghold cinch back jeans, vintage cut so the front rise is 12”. Looks high rise in theory but these rigid jeans, Levi, even Lee, all seem to have a tendency to slide downwards. The correct 33” waist or whatever post-shrinkage waist size don’t seem to hold the pants up. This is not an issue with modern straight leg or “relaxed” fit Levi & Lee, or Prison Blues, or Carhartt, they all stay up, the stress is distributed evenly throughout the pants & it hugs the hip. I wonder if this experience is shared by others.
