...but sometimes work calls and today I had to feed the cows and the rest of my animals. I switched over to my 80's Gun Club model in chocolate with a horse hair ribbon...one of my working hats.

These cattle look like Longhorns but they are smaller. These are Pineywoods cattle, a heritage breed that pre-dates the Longhorn. There are only about 2000 in existence. The Pineywoods cattle were introduced in the U.S. many centuries ago and were left or abandond and had to fend for themselves for over 100 years thus they became well adapted to the heat and humidity in the southeastern U.S. Growing up in the "Piney Woods" of the southeast U.S., they became "Pineywoods" cattle. For some of you old timers, these are also called Rakestraw cattle as they are adept at "raking" the ground in the winter to find fresh grass under the dead brush and overgrowth. For cattle of this breed with documents placing them in Florida, these cattle are also known as Florida Crackers or cracker cattle.

Just a hobby. I'd be dead...or broke...or both if I tried to raise cattle for a living! i've lived on and around farms all my life but hauling hay and working cattle in high school were the two biggest motivators for me to get a college education. I love the country lifestyle andI have a huge respect for those who live off the land. I myself cannot do what a real farmer or rancher does; they have skills and strength and stamina and a way with plants and animals that I can only dream about.

Way cool cattle Randy!

Very cool Pineywoods Cattle Randy, didn't know you raised those. One of the oldest breeds in the U.S. !

Love the green Strat too, don't think I've seen you post that one. I'm starting to like the green hats.

Today, a hat that doesn’t get much head time I’m afraid. This vintage Knox superfine came with me today but it’s a 7 5/8. My head is a 7 1/2. When I’ve tried to shim it the sweat buckles, no matter where I place the shim. It works as is, but it’s very loose. Pics are from out and about but one. The first is from home, sitting on a ‘64 Ampeg b-15n.

I love seeing your velour hats Steve. The silver velour ones are my favs! Thanks for sharing your collection.

Looking sharp in your hat. I do appreciate how you pair your patterned attire.

Dang your handiwork is fine! Excellent ribbon treatments. I do look forward to your radio pics.
