Very cool imprint on the sweatband Alan. I was reading through that thread. I agree with you as I believe you mentioned in there it is odd the large gap between examples.. as this one appears to be a 60’s example. Need to post it in there as well [emoji846]

Do you think it Possible that considering the DuPont treatment these have, as Tim and I were discussing, could have been private labeled by Lee at that point in the Keith timeline.

Best,
Joe

Joe, I have a few hats with very similar sweatband markings. The location, shape, style, and the word “Major” are all consistent with a Beaver Brand hat. I don’t think that Lee made any of them, but as I’m regularly shown to be mistaken.... :)

Nothing wrong with Beaver Brand. They made a range of quality levels, and some are very nice.

Last bit of lab work before heading back to work on Monday. This is the 2nd of two hats Tim sent me (to chase away my post-op blues, I think.) :) The other is a dark green Portis.

A very nice Knox Custom with their Custom Edge brim treatment, aka Cavanagh Edge, and a rich, dark brown, maleable felt. Fits very well and was a good companion on my trip to the lab this morning.

Thanks, Tim!

I agree Brent..l definitely nothing wrong with Beaver Brand. Tim and I were just having fun speculating because of the ‘DuPont’ water proofing marking. Didn’t know if that name was licensed out to other manufacturers besides Lee. I had always assumed it was just some chemical made by DuPont they sprayed on the felt after production... kinda like scotch guard or 303 would be used today.

Best,
Joe

I've not studied the history of this company, but by the 1960s, it is likely that it was a brand consolidated into the handful of surviving companies at that time. A decade later, they would all be gone.

Thanks for the info Alan.

Joe

Great to see you back Doug!
I hope you are all better now and not going back to work just because they make you. And they do.
Continued wellness your way.
Ps: (Hell of a way to get a couple hats though).
Kudos, Tim!!
