scotty, I could say the same. Craig is long enough in the tooth now that it makes sense for him to move out of the role, but he is my favorite Bond and the movies featuring him my favorite Bond movies.

Okay, I can see everything I won't like about it - everything that will cause me to grumble - but I still really want to see it.

I've got some bad news for your lady, you were looking at the UK release date, the US release is a week later.
Lizzie got it right on the button, James Bond is a cold war character, preserving him in aspic and bringing him up to date, even with the highly talented Daniel Wroughton Craig in the title role, doesn't work for me. He was best left duelling with The Soviets.
Would you enjoy Indiana Jones if there was a change of actor? I would if the story was plausible, like the son of, much in the same way as Connery/Ford portrayed father and son.

I think Lizzie's analysis is spot on. I'd go so far as to say that after the first three films in the '60s, the true creative, cutting-edge freshness was gone. To be honest, we had stopped going to see Bond's in the theater during the Brosnan era and only went to the first two Craig ones and, then, stopped again. We do watch them all when they make it to TV.
I think we both want to see this one owing to wishful thinking - maybe it will be more like "Casino Royale" and, since we both grew up as Bond fans, it's something fun to enjoy together. Our expectations will be low, so, hopefully, we'll have a good time and not overanalyze it.

That is a MLHB (major league hot button) in the Indy community - the thought of a new actor playing Dr. Jones.
James Bond has been through a series of actors since 1954. Sean Connery was the best of them until Daniel Craig, imho.
The rest were a step or more down from Connery. But, lo and behold, after 23 years after the last appearance by Connery in a Bond film (Never Say Never Again, 1983), and four various-stages-of-insufferable Bonds, we now have, again, imho, a really perfect James Bond. So as far as Indiana Jones, we may be years away from the 'right' actor taking up the role, if it ever happens at all.

Yeah, that was a great movie. The best of the series, in my opinion, esp since it can stand alone on its merits as an action film irrespective of it being a Bond film.

The Fleming family estate still has a say on who can play Bond. This week they announced that James Bond will not be portrayed by a female. They didn't have objections as to the race of 007, but they emphasized that James Bond was written as a male agent and that's not going to change.
I'll bet they saw the storm coming.....

Predictable. Doesn't stop a spin off series of films featuring a female 00 agent who is not Bond. If there's a buck in it it it is likely to be made.

I'm recently told this has been done, after a fashion, in the last few years in audio format, on the BBC's Radio 4. Not sure if it's available outside the UK, but I'm gonig to look into it on the UK based apps.
It just makes me laugh, really, what people will and won't accept. Death rays, plots to blow up the world, speedboat chases, cars with guns on the headlamps, yes.... A woman instead of a leading man? SHRIEK! Much like the Doctor Who fans who insist that it's not that they don't like a woman being in charge, it's just that a time-travelling alien who goes about saving the galaxy, is hundreds of years old and has changed his form dozens of times and been English, Scottish and Irish isn't realistic if he turns into a female form. Er.... But hey, what do oddballs like Sydney Newman know compared to the self-appointed "real" fans?

I'm probably going to sound like a complete pompous ass here but, I'm sorry there are some things you just don't do and I feel this is one of them. I mean what's next, should we cast Helen Hunt to play Indian Jones, or how about this, lets have Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence switch places in the next X-Men? OW, OW what about this......................wait for it lets have Dwayne Johnson play Marry Poppins!
I'm all for the gender equality thing and thats fine, however have some damn respect for the creators of these iconic characters and the people that have portrayed them and made them into the icons they are.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should and as for all this PC crap, it's just getting out of hand.

Not pompous, just traditional. I subscribe to the same school. I'm sure that many of us do, but society has gotten to a point where if you identify to 'traditional' roles then you are either racist, macho, or whatever the current term is used to describe those of us that don't necessarily care to follow the new norms.
A few other terms I've heard thrown around are "woke" and "toxic masculinity". WTF does that even mean?
