Hat comeback

I've noticed caps, news boy, cabbie style, seem to be coming back. At least among men of a certain age who want something more stylish than a ball cap.

Also seen a few pork pies around. Although it may be more from Breaking Bad than anything else.

I don't think hats will be main stream again, (but one never knows fashion trends do repeat at times) That said I see plenty of men wearing hats of some sort unfortunately its the baseball hat (YUK). though I have to say there is no shortage of fedora style hats in the warm months here in the North East.

during warm weather I see quite a few straw fedoras and plenty of canvas hats including a few tilleys. most of the straw hats are inexpensive panama clones.

but when cooler weather arrives I see Baseball hats , stocking hats or most often nothing.

the fact that most folks are in vehicles and not on foot puts a damper on head wear.

Trick or treat lol

By the 1960's, hats were totally uncool, but smart suits, slimline of course, crisp shirts, neck ties and shoes, mainly 'Oxfords' but fashion changed fast back then. Young men didn't want to look like their parents and grandparents, but they did want to look smart and impress. Be that the ladies, a potential employer or maybe the bank manager, collar and tie was the order of the day.

Had you the gift of the clairvoyant and had been able to see well into the future, then told me that one day an English footballer, name of David Beckham, would not only be seen wearing a suit matched to a 'T' shirt but also a pair of trainers I really would have found that hard to believe. And when the Press picture him in their front pages and describe him as dapper, really? Not my definition of dapper, but that is, of course, my perspective. Chances are that if David Beckham was seen wearing a fedora, there would be such a rush on that style of hat, we might be moaning about the shortage, and the increase in cost because of that shortage.

And so it is with hats, chances are that many a younger man these days see their bare headed fathers and grandfathers and think that geting a hat would be cool, who knows?

I don't think Beckham carries that much cultural cache in 2020.

Regardless, he wears hats somewhat frequently.
