Field Leathers review

It is an honour to have been asked by Greg to review two of his jackets.
Greg started working at Aero in 2012 where under Ken's watchful eye he learned to create designs and to make all the jackets Aero produce.
From a choice of about six designs I chose two quite different designs, the Manhattan and the Ohio.

The Manhattan is based on Buco’s J-24, made out of full aniline vegetable tanned black Shinki horsehide and is 1.3mm thickness.

.All zippers are reproduction Talons from Japan.

. Lining is quilted Rayon

. Leather detailed pullers.

The Ohio is based on the classic 1930’s HB.

. Simple and elegant.

.full aniline vegetable tanned brown Shinki horsehide and is also 1.3mm think.

. All zippers are reproduction Talon made in Japan.

.lining is Viscose Twill (standard)

The jackets are both size 40 so are too small for me to wear but I did just squeeze into both of them.
I hope my photos do the jackets justice so I will let the images do most of the talking.

Using the very best materials is obviously a very good starting point. The leathers are gorgeous with fabulous colour grain and character, the jackets are very solid in feel but not heavy. The construction is quite simply World Class and would stand comparison easily with Freewheelers, Aero, Real McCoys, Lost Worlds and Goodwear. They are the two most beautifully made jackets I have ever seen.

They both look great.

Is it me or are these patterns very much shaped like an inverted V?
It seems most of his size 40 sample jackets have very narrow shoulders (around 17.5"), pretty narrow chest (21-22") but then a big taper out as they go down to the bottom hem (21" or more)
This reminds me very much of the general shape of Japanese patterns, which is a little weird considering most of us struggle to fit in the Japanese brands.

I am usually a size 40 in Aero and 42 in most brands and couldn't fit in any of the sample that where in the classifieds because of that inverted V thing.

Leather and stitching look very nice though...

Hi Carlos

my jackets are a trim cut. I know that this might not appeal to a lot of people and hopefully my personal preference doesn’t come back to bite me on the arse too hard. That being said I do offer full pattern customisations free of charge so hopefully I can prove myself by getting custom order 100% and gain the trust of you guys.

thanks

Greg
