Tonak "Gazela" possibly mid 1950s.

Back in January 2015 I received this book "170th (1799 - 1969) Anniversary of TONAK" (actually 24 Years). No mention of Hückel (146 Years, 1799 - 1945) on the cover.

Seems to be a Tonak from the period when the knowledge was still there. I'll be posting a "gazela" later today as well. Not a Tonak though.

A sneak peak today. I’m waiting on an accompanying piece to show up hopefully tomorrow, before posting on the New Hats thread. Just pulled it out of the freezer last night and steamed and shaped it, so had to wear it today, but I will have a very cool presentation tomorrow.....

After several days in the freezer I'd expect nothing else but a cool presentation.:)

View attachment 213189 Here’s another $60 hat I got this week from Goodwill.
It’s very similar in age and look to the Open Road (type) hat that was given to me from @Rmccamey . I call that one my MacKamie, as Randy says that’s how his name was spelled back in the ancient times...when he was born? :)
This one is designated as an actual Open Road and couldn’t be but a year, or two, or so, between each other.
Which begs the age old question:
is an Open Road an Open Road even if it’s not designated as an Open Road on the sweat?
Notice, too, the small differences between the two.
My new one has a 2” sweat and the MacKamie has a 1 1/2”
The liner tip logos are real similar, but subtly different.
The sweat logos are completely different. I shaped them both differently, intentionally.

They’re alike in dimensions, felt color, hand and feel. They also have a few moth bites, but not annoyingly so.
Maybe these hats shared the same
Mother or father.
Also, the reason the wind trolly is placed backwards on my newest to me hat is because the moth larvae ate a hole in the string so I sewed it back together and hid the repair just under the ribbon in the back instead of seeing it plainly in front.
Anyone have a comment on these two hats? View attachment 213194 View attachment 213195
They look similar enough to be twins. Good looking both of them.

Thanks Randall. Since I have this one custom fitted to my head now I'm sort of loathe to part with it. But I'll take it under advisement.

Thanks Tim. This is one of my more colorful Harris Tweeds.

Very nice, Randall. Looks perfect. Great color plays.

Thanks Stefan.

Very nice. Was it in a coffin?

Thanks all,
Michael
Thanks, Michael. It was. Posted a full report in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread just now.

A Mexican Three Way? Sounds like something available on the back streets of Tijuana.

It really is cool to see these "foreign born" Stetsons and the like (Steve posted a German Resistol the other day). I'm assuming it was made in Philly and sold in Mexico? Or did Stetson have them made there, too?
I think it was made in the US. The felt and finishes are impeccable

Thanks, Randall. It is a nice one indeed and it is a zigzag stitch. The underwelt is the narrowest I've seen on any hat.
Oh, so it’s an underwelt with zz stitching. I really like that. Not something seen every day, which is another reason I like coming here.
I learn so much about hatting. Is that a word?

Two hat day already while prepping for some extended family coming in from out of town. (Glen) O'Farrell, Sidney Bechet, and I cleaned off the driveway the old fashioned way:

Then it was off to the grocery store with this Staalmeester courtesy of everyone's favorite Dutch connection @steur:

My page was scrolled like this on your photo and for a half second my mind thought... cool. Fedora view from the space station. LOL
