I’ve a hat the famous singer Michael Jackson wore at his victory tour in Miami 1984. Only way to prove it’s real to me dna from sweat and makeup on the inside. It’s real. I cought it fell to the ground stuffed it under my shirt an acted like all. Who go it? What’s it worth, how do I prove it’s real? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tocon51

Google “the Fedora Lounge Michael Jackson hat”

This, and similar, topics have come up before. Your hat was probably one of dozzens MJ wore, and lacking any provenance it isn’t worth much. What it’s real monetary worth can be easily determined by putting it on eBay and letting the market value it. It’s been reported that Michael wore cheap wool hats as they were disposable props rather than hats he wore when not dressing the part. Probably not what you want to hear, but what you really have is most likely a souvenir rather than a valuable collector’s piece.

Indeed - I seem to recall his people, having failed to curb some of his more extravagant habits, managed to convince him to wear much cheaper hats on stage when he was likely to throw them into the crowd. Nonetheless, there will be a level of value owing to the celebrity association, if somewhat dented by subsequent reportage of elements of his private life. The Michael Jackson fanbase does seem to be particularly and defiantly loyal, so that market might be prepared to pay a bit for such a hat, if the market can be identified.

In the absence of a testimonial from Jackson's people as to authenticity, or a DNA test (both obviously highly unlikely!), the best option is probably some sort of proof you attended the event at which the hat was thrown into the crowd - a ticket or ticket-stub with the show details on it would be good; also photos showing Jackson wearing the hat during the performance. It's no guarantee, but it's as much as most commercially-traded autographs go with.

As a kid, I wondered if he had a bionic hand like Luke Skywalker, and that#s why he wore the glove.... Though a cautionary tale: I also knew a kid from another school where they laughed at a supply teacher for wearing one glove all the time - only to then discover it was covering a prosthetic hand!

My mind always went to Curley in Of Mice and Men. Keepin' that hand soft for Bubbles.
