it use to be a regular cattleman crease hat with roper brim but after about 20 years it was time to change it.

i wanted to join SASS and do “cowboy classic” where you dress the part and I’ve never had a gus crease so I figured why not... so now it has that and the pencil curl and the wider satin ribbon

i kept the original band and stuck it on a 1970 resistol

i am partial to cowboy hats, always have been even when they weren’t stylish... I wore mine when working then just got into wearing them all the time.. I only where the one in this image on veterans day... it is setup up as it’s should be with designated unit badge on back and with my rank and my division in front .. with yellow acorns since I was enlisted not officer.

Grabbed this one off the Bay last week for something like $12.50 and shipping. IT was a sweatless body when I got it, which is undoubtedly why I was the only one interested. Too bad for them. The body on this is feather light and is best compared with my Dobb Hankachif Cross Country or Dalton Featherweight. The hand on the felt is sublime, and somewhat Playboy-ish. It had a couple of small stains on the rear of the hat, but those steamed out with a little work, only leaving a mark on the ribbon. The only markings on the body were the Resistol liner tip and a chalked "14" (1/4) on the interior of the body. Curiously, the liner tip only says Resistol Self-Conforming, no Byer-Rolnick, but you'd have to work hard to convince me this is a post-BR hat. The felt is just too nice and the style doesn't jibe with that period.

I evened everything out and put a new sweatband in yesterday. This is going to be a great summer weight hat.

Six-inch crown, 2 5/8" raw edge brim. Though the taper on the crown is such that it is hard to get a lot of height out of it. I attempted to give it only a center dent, but it wasn't having any of that. So a diamond it is.

The liner tip ghost ain't coming out, as the felt is just too thin.

Yup. Did two sweatbands yesterday. This one and I also resized and put a new sweat in a Bond thin ribbon my wife found for herself. Been working on hats all weekend. It's been nice.

Shoot, Jim, the hand on the inside looks better than the outside of most! Nice catch! I wouldn’t doubt that the sweat once had B&R’s names embossed on it. Maybe even Harry’s only?

Nah, I don't think it's that old. Yes, it likely had a Melorol self-conforming sweatband originally. Reeded, based on the stitch tracks at the base of the brim. We'll never know the age, sadly.

Do you use the stitch awl technique or something else? I loathe had sewing and I’m not sure my wife is all that excited about doing another sweatband for me.

I just sew them in. Takes about 20-30 minutes. The stitch awl technique always looked like a pain in the butt to me.

Resistol Beaver One Hundred. This is my second Resistol 100, and this is the older of them and far nicer too. It has a great hand, and the felt is just the right amount of firm for a western. I’m my opinion, the felt is better than the Churchill Beaver 50 (I’ve never handled a Churchill 100). The sweatband is also much nicer if this 100 than my more recent version.

Full 6” open crown and 3.5” raw edge brim.

OK, I've been up and down this thread for a week or so, and need to ask a question. Does anybody remember when Resistol dropped the stylized "O" in their liner tip logo for an "O" in a regular font?

I know it's here somewhere, and I should have it committed to memory, but it's escaping me.

I was reading some more very old posts with regard to Resistol dating and found interesting the discussions concerning plastic tip liners. The consensus was if clear plastic definitely post war leaning toward late forty’s but definitely mid fifty’s to sixty’s. No big surprise there.
Just a tidbit.

Ps: i too recall a fairly specific date nailing down a date somewhere in the annals of the lounge but beats me where.
