I thought a might provide my taste review of the Guinness Draught I am sipping for context; Tonight I looked forward to the velvety first sip and the smooth taste that finishes in a moderately dry bitterness.

Comparision: The Guinness Stout that I have opened before me as I am typing has coffee/chocolate Stout flavors before the moderately dry bitter finish.

Preference: None, the two offerings are just different. I suggest if you are going to sample them due sip the Draught first, Stout second and finish the evening with the Foreign Extra Stout. The taste/flavor complexity and profile grows.

Best to all this month when many of us sip Stouts or Porters. Eric -

Good review Eric. i definitely prefer the Guinness Draught with the Nitro Ball if I have to pour my own.
Nothing compares to on tap though for Guinness, but you can get a pretty good pour from the can:

Today was a beautiful Spring day & even though I set out to drink some Irish Red Ale, I was tired of wearing a derby so I broke out a VS.

Love that VS! Irish Red Ale sounds like a perfect early spring beer.

This late evening I have been out sipping Four Roses Single Barrel bourbon. Sightly sweet, woody with a heavy mouth feel is what I taste. I have read reviews were the "experts" are able to discern all kinds of flavors that I had yet to experience. After experiencing a variety of Irish and Japanese Whiskeys these past months I believe I can taste the mash bill containing corn. I will have to pick up another bourbon with a more similar mash bill to compare and see if I really can pick the corn bourbon out.

I do like this bourbon. Admittedly I find I sample a very small dram of bourbon or whiskey. A little sipped goes a long way, for me.

Where I struggle is with my citrus taxonomy. I wouldn't know the difference in taste from a kumquat to a pomelo like the experts do.

Expand my taste experience would help some.

My wife has started to pick-up different fruits/vegtables at the market to expand out taste experiences. Some of the exotic fruits are really not my fav tastes. This morning we tried a Starfruit. Unique taste. Green apple/grape taste. I would not buy it again.

We have signed up for a wine tasting next month. I am not necessarily a wine fan, but it should be an enjoyable experience as a couple.

When it comes to whiskey, all mash bills must contain at least 51% corn to be considered a bourbon. When the mash bill contains at least 80% corn, it is considered corn whiskey. I'm with you and have a hard time picking out the different flavors that are described in a lot of the reviews out there. I drink whiskey because I like whiskey, not because I can taste a bit of hazelnut mixed with a banana and pine chips. I can however differentiate between a rye bourbon vs a wheated bourbon. The ryes (not to be confused with straight rye) tend to be a bit spicier than the wheaters, which tend to be a bit sweeter. I've always enjoyed sipping on a high rye bourbon, but have recently been growing more accustomed to the wheaters.

On a side note, I've recently tried Tin Cup for the first time. What a delicious whiskey this is. It's a high rye bourbon blended with a small amount of single malt. What a great combination of flavors this brings. The only thing I have against it is that it is only 84 proof. While light in punch, it still delivers a smooth drink.

I like High West & Tin Cup, & I rank them in that order. But I don't buy either one very often as I think there are better whiskies at their price point. Same thing with Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey. I like it a lot but it's got some stiff competition for my $ at it's price point. So I only buy it when I haven't had it in a while.

It's a Playboy clone I had Art make for me in 2017, from the Century Line of 100% beaver. It has his signed liner in red & a perforated sweat inside. 2-1/2" brim with the Playboy circle trim stitch; 3/4" tone on tone ribbon.

It has his signed liner in red & a perforated sweat inside. 2-1/2" brim with the Playboy circle trim stitch; 3/4" tone on tone ribbon.

Pictures like this make me a little concerned for you. The saying is “never drink alone” but I am not sure about drinking alone, in the woods, at night.... that’s like next level. :D;):p

Tonight I am sipping a Descuttes Black Butte Porter with my brother who is home from some escapades (he works for the CIA). We have been laughing about some of the recent goings on in the middle east.

Creamy with a strong flavors with a bit of a bitter finish. Well balanced and excellent. (Comparison: The Founders Porter has more of an edge or more roast flavor. )

I like it a lot but it's got some stiff competition for my $ at it's price point. So I only buy it when I haven't had it in a while.
I've only had one bottle of High West which I bought on a trip to Arizona last summer. It hasn't been available at my local liquor store until recently. I enjoyed it, but like you would rather go in another direction at the price point. I usually don't buy fifths because they don't tend to last too long in my cupboard. My ol' reliable is a liter of Bulleit for $30.

I think of having good whiskies as having a consumable collection. Collecting it is a hobby like anything else. Problem is, especially when it's a whiskey not readily available, that I go thru it too fast.

I'm sure there's a hat on the couch behind this guy. Otherwise he's got everything going to be a real man.
