I'm sorry but you all arguing over the thickness? Who cares when there's no armour! It's not even fit for purpose as a riding jacket without armour and shouldn't even be considered. Hard pass.

Don't beat around the bush mate , let it all out and say what you REALLY think haha....
I ride ALL the time in "un-armoured" jackets. Just the way it was ( and for me still is !)

It's a shame we don't have recorded forum posts from people in the late 60s, i am sure we would still find great posts of people saying "there is no need for a seat belt in a car, i have driven everywhere without one since 1930 and have never needed a seat belt, if it was mandatory i would just ride a horse!"

You two have done it for years, you have survived doing it for years, good on you, it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

It’s a risk-reward analysis. Most in South Florida ride in tshirts wo helmets. Not me, but I draw the line with armor. But I get why others do it. Others should get why I do what I do. Everyone has a different hard no. Best thing to do is not ride (said as I roll down A1A watching women jog in their bikinis and too short shorts!).

I ride slow so slow armor and helmet don't matter, I rather arrive looking dry and decent, rather than sweating with my hair sticking to my face from helmeted head, google south east asia traffic to get a picture, road users are so diverse ranging from pedestrian, street hawkers pushing their cart selling food, rickshaw, bicycle, scooter/ moped, and personal car, all navigating avoiding each other at very low speed with here and there surprise speedbumps across even big roads and random potholes during rainy season. I wear helmet only when on my route I know I will pass traffic police posts on big roads.

I put this one down to there being different cultures and some of them really hate it when they feel they are being lectured to for their own good. Understandable. I remember when seat-belts came in here. Many people screamed blue murder that they had never needed belts before and that the culture had gone mad with health and safety overkill and Nanny State excess (not that this precise term was available then). I was only a kid but I refused to wear one for the first year.

I was hoping my earlier post would take care of the situation, but members continue to post, so I will restate. This was a long buried thread from almost two years ago by a brand new member who comes in with his first (and only) post. This post was somewhat inflammatory and on a topic on which there isn't complete agreement in the US. This member comes back periodically to check on the dissension he has sewn.

See it for what it may well be. Don't fall into the trap.

I could close the thread, but that seems to be a bit harsh. Just follow my lead on this, and it will go away. PC

Are you serious? What kind of craven soul do you have that you think this way? Just drive a car.

Dude, you are replying to a 2 year old post by a poster with one post, which was a flame bait anyway. Geez.
