I took a walk out again to the curious tree icicle mid morning. It is an oak tree (black oak identified by the leaves under its canopy). The crevasse in the tree, created by an almost totally lost limb is filled with decay. I see under close examination that snow can easily collect, melt and creates icicles. It is a high probability that the colored ice is a leaching of the decayed matter into the melted snow cover.

On the hat front - my walk-about was done in a Filson Mackinaw and a Gannon Wanderer (inspired by the Stetson of said name and made of silvermist felt with charcoal trimmings).

I should not be wearing straw until the traditional straw hat day, May 15th. With the false spring we are having here in Oregon, I just couldn't help myself. I picked this one up from Mike Miller in October, and just put it away, so sad. Felt good to have it on. I didn't go out in public with it, so I would not be scorned by the Hat Police.
