Dobbs Twenty Homburg. It has narrow brim binding and all around slightly smaller proportions. It’s in excellent condition.

Stetson Grand Central in Silverbelly. The felt is very soft, much softer than my other recent open crown Royal De Luxe hats. The nicely done underwelt, anonymous with an accent stitch, gives it a felted edge appearance.
I watched this hat make a couple of cycles through ebay before I made the seller an offer. What I didn’t know, and it always my fault, is that this hat had received some artificial distressing. Thankfully, the distressing was limited to the ribbon: frayed bow...and not just the trailing edge, and some fading or “custom dyeing” of the ribbon. I thought about replacing the ribbon, but I think I’ll just move it on to a new home.

Shame about the Grand Central's ribbon.....I love mine....I got lucky and both of mine had 2 1/2 brims....

Until I saw this hat, I thought they all had 2 1/2” brims. I must be getting old because I just can’t understand the desire to artificially distress dress hats.

It isn't an age thing, and for me it's not just hats. When I was 19 years old I bought myself a new pair of boots, and the owner of the shoe store casually mentioned how many of his male customers would exit the store wearing their new boots and immediately go and kick the curb to scuff them up and make them look not-so-new. And in 2008 when I was doing the research before buying my first fur felt hat I discovered Club Obi Wan where many members were seeking advice on how to distress their hats, leather jackets, and boots to give them that authentic "Indy" appearance. Both times my first thought was, "Why would anyone spend hard-earned money on a quality item and then intentionally damage it?" I couldn't understand it. Just wear it and be patient and it'll get distressed on it's own.

I would say that I definitely will, but I have a bunch of pics I took at Monument Valley last August that I meant to post on the lounge, but never got to it. Now with Tapatalk no longer in the picture, they may never make it here. In any case, I will definitely make a point of sharing the Indy. I'm currently trying to figure out if I want the turn or not. I'm afraid it will trigger my OCD tendencies, but I'm afraid I will regret not getting it with the turn.Now you've done it--you're obligated to post photos here on The Lounge as soon as you have it in your hands.

Talk to John about that. I'm betting you don't need to worry about taking it easy with his Penman Raiders hat, and he'll reblock, refurb for free, too.
I have the Penman Indy Everyman hat, and I don't baby it at all.

Our esteemed member Randy @Rmccamey found this Churchill hat, which wasn't in his size and he thought of me (bless him). A Churchill hat was lacking in my collection, so we were set up for an exchange.
Here's the Churchill beaver 50. Silverbelly I guess, which seems to vary between light grey and beige with some green (yikes!) tones in there, depending on the light. Quite stiff but easily moldable. I don't own an Open Road, but this is what I would imagine they'd be.
The hand of the felt is what really makes this hat; it's exceptionally smooth and lovely to the touch. Not a thick felt, but certainly not a lightweight hat at 131 grams. The brim binding is well done and very thin (the way I like it) and the sweatband is sturdy but supple. The liner is a glorious wine red. I'm guessing 1950's, but that's just a stab in the dark really. Brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent.
