how do you think about vest with button on the "wrong" side?

I bought a beautiful houndstooth Harris tweed jacket on ebay last year, and when it arrived I found it was NOS, and fit me perfectly - but the buttons were on the wrong side. I must have worn it to work five or six times and no one commented. Then again, I sometimes think that someone could walk through downtown with an arrow through his head and no one would notice.

I'm reminded of reading about a psychological experiment maybe twenty five years ago, where participants - young, hip undergraduates - were sent around an art gallery wearing a Barry Manilow t-shirt. They were all chosen as people who would be mortified by that, and all reported a sense that everyone was staring at them and it was embarassing. When the group of persons stood around in the gallery were questioned afterwards, only a tiny proportion had evne noticed the embarassing t-shirts.

I honestly doubt you'd meet maybe one person within a year who'd notice the buttons being on the wrong side. If something fits, people in general won't question it. I got more comments "Is that a women's jacket?" on jackets that were too short (though not small per se), namely Schott Perfecto, but when actually wearing a women's jacket which I have for a month or so because it fit me great (cool looking 70's coat), nobody ever said a thing and coupla people even commented how nice it is.

Thats the front of the vest after i made the chest smaller, a bit tight now when fully butonned but before it fits me like a sleeveless jacket. Waist down still big just using the smaller waist tab button but still looks quite big to be worn under a slimmer waisted jacket

If it was a functional vest, I would say that you should just wear it. It's not. It's not for being warm, or has pockets for your equipment. It doesn't matter that nobody except you will notice or care. You notice. You care.

The only purpose of this vest is for you to enjoy the way it looks. The vest is not exactly what you want. You don't like it because the buttons are wrong, and you don't like the fit. You do not enjoy the way it looks.

Have a new vest made, to your exact fit, and get the buttons right. You will never be able to enjoy this vest.

I have no problem with the button or the look, the fit i have mend it somewhat, after my jacket done i will use the leftover leather to make side panel, i will get rid of the waist adjuster tab and buttons and replace the lower waist with leather panel. I will see if i want to fix the buttons placement or just live with it.

I would just wear it. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't even have noticed that the buttons are on the "wrong" side.

Okay. Now I see it. The fly on the jeans and the belt go one way, the vest goes the other way.

Who is looking at stuff like that? What bothers me more is having a left hand pull zipper. Nobody sees it. But I have to use it. It's about as useful as a left-handed knife.

buttoning the opposite side requires some practice too, not a problem for me now, the first day I have to use the other hand to button was not so easy, I have jacket with zipper on both sides I didn't even aware of their differences using the same hand pulling the puller the same other hand securing the box, the only difference just on which side sliding in the pin.

I grew up as right handed. Then discovered my left hand abilities as a teenager. 1st came my left hook. Then the left uppercut. I can use chopsticks left handed. I type using my left thumb in the space bar. When I drive, my left foot presses the brake pedal. On a bike, my left foot comes down when I am stopped. On a skateboard, my left foot pushes.

I shoot right handed because guns are right handed. I carry my knife in my left.

Recently i tried to draw with my left hand it looks not too different than what i do with right hand, just 3 times slower. My left hand is good at things and my right hand good for another thing, i cant operate screw driver with my left hand, but opening a jar i always use my left hand. Operating keyboard my left hand is very dominant, but i cant use mouse with my left.

I bought wabash vest from local company, 3 patch pockets, 1 small chest pocket and 2 waist pockets, since it has stripes it was kind of triggering my ocd when all 3 pockets placed not really following the line.

Understandable since the price is just $10 and the material is quite nice and breathy seems like going to fade nicely and the vest has pinched in darts vertically on the front lower stomach area to make a neat slimming look, so i picked off the stitchings and brought it to my mom's place to ask her to help with machine sewing the pockets back with better placement and the small chest pocket repositioned, I was weighing between placing it halfway inside the bigger waist pocket or on top of it, and for ease of use i decided to have it on top.

The shoulder seam is a bit triggering too i need to get a ribbon or thin webbing to place over it. But all in all quite happy with it
