With the announcement today that Florida will be on a stay at home order for at least the next 30 days. Seemed like the perfect time to begin 30 days to 30 hats. 30 hats 30 days no repeats. A feat I couldn’t even have considered when I joined the lounge 6 months or so ago... so I thank you all for your encouragement on that front.

I’ll start with one of the first hats I purchased when I started wearing hats again about 3 years ago. The hats of James Spader’s character Raymond ‘Redd’ Reddington in the show Blacklist was what sparked my quest to start wearing hats again. (That and the ever diminishing follicle count on my head) Being that at that point I knew absolutely nothing about hats. I think I did fairly well on my first try with this Dark Coffee Brown Royal Stetson for about 5 bucks.

1 7/8 brim with overwelt edge

2 inch grosgrain ribbon

4 3/4 crown at its peak as bashed

when this hat arrived I don’t think it had even ever been worn. It had it’s original factory center crease and no side dents at all. It took some coaxing over several months to hold em well without steam. This is a hat that needs to get worn more often for sure.

Great idea on the 30 days, 30 hats!
You and I started the Lounge around the same time, Joe. I started out with about twenty when I got here and of those, maybe ten were pretty nice, but most were things I’d sniff at these days. :) Now I’ve got 31 hats, good hats, that I’m very fond of.
A hat for every day in a long month.
If not for selling some of them I’d have about 52, like Bill, if I kept them all, but with 31 I find it terribly hard making up my mind which lid to top me off each day! I’ll prolly continue buying hats for myself, but will be continually switching and swapping till I have 31 fedoras that could compete with Eric’s. Hey, a man can dream cain’t he? :)
I’ll be joining you on the 30 hats deal, Joe!

Here’s my first of 30...and one of my first real vintage hats. A Knox Westlite Twenty.
I like it a lot since Sewing on a campaign bow. I plan to sew on matching binding one day soon. I tried to offer a trade using this hat with a certain fella from Alabama.
So glad he ended up finding a Westlite a few days before I asked him about a trade, or I might be one unhappy swapper!

Awesome Buddy! That will be fun. When I joined here I had about 7 to 10 hats I had accumulated over about 3 years. Most all of them with brims right at or under 2inches. Now while some of Those remain among my favorites hats. The guys here allowed me to branch out and try some hats I would never have. Definitely can’t blame a guy for dreaming of owning a collection the likes of Eric’s... or several other’s collections for that matter.

You've collected a lot of great hats the last several months, Randall. It's hard for me to keep up and I'm feeling kinda down so I'm going to

Get myself a rocking chair
To see if I can lose
These thin dime, hard times
Hell on Church street blues.

:)

Thanks, Randy!
You’re correct, Sir. I have been very blessed these last few months and know from where and Who the blessings come.

I dig that Norman Blake tune and the crooked nosed guitarist who made it a classic. I’ve tried my best to emulate his unique style of picking...well, me and every other flat picker who’s ever heard Tony Rice live on stage!
Orphan Annie is another great tune on the Church Street Blues album, I think. Hard to believe, but I got to play that million dollar guitar of Rice’s one night after one of his awesome shows down in Gainesville, Fla.
Cool story.
Sorry to hear that you’re feeling down, Randy, but hopefully it’s just a temporary passing of the “Come And Go Blues”.

Thanks, not bad for a kid from New York City. The only problem with this hat is the crown is so high it hits the roof of my Prius.
Don’t imagine them Prius designers had western lids in mind when they were scrapin’ the clay model of that particular ride! Probably shouldn’t be wearing that hat while toolin’ along, Jonesy. :)
Reminds me of another song that Charlie Daniels sung in the 70s.
“Uneasy Rider” If you’ve never heard that tune maybe you need to YouTube it. Good’n!

I put on my old Snowy River this morning. When I bought it back in 2003 it was the #1 seller for Akubra and a very Australian shape.

Over the years people have asked how well the Akubra holds up to punishment. Doing my home Reno this last two weeks made me realize when I work hard I wear either my Tilley or Pith helmet. So really you need a beater to keep your good hats good.

Hey Johnny,
Went looking for a shot of old and found one from 1981. I think it was the toughest Akubra I ever had apart from my Army slouch hat, my Hamptons couldn't take anything like the same punishment, nor my sons Angler.

Another great conversion, Terry. Hard to believe it's the same hat. I find the colour appealing especially with that longhair felt. Love the subtle ribbon and bow treatment, too.

Stay well, buddy!

Just finished this Biltmore Western Longhair, (pieced together), conversion. Kind of a boring color, (for me, that is). But, the profile is crisp and classic, the way I like it, and the crown is tall and straight. I found a piece of dark brown 6 ply mid ribbon to put on it. It started out as a size 7 and I reblocked it to a 7 1/4. I'll have more later in the Conversion Corral..

That is one heck of a score, Joe. 5 bucks! Cool.
I love Blacklist, too. My eldest daughter says Red reminds her of me ;-)
You've got the one-eyed pose of to a tee by the way.

Stay well!

Love that Knox Westlite, Randall. I also love the fact that 4 of your hats ended up in my collection :)
Looking forward to seeing your and Joe's 30 hat a day parade.

Stay well, my friend!
