Congrats, Randall! That's a great score, certainly at that price. Those Marque Grand Luxe (the Italians would say "Gran Lusso") hats usually have somewhat shorter brims, but this one seems to have a generous sized one. They do have suede or long hair finishes. I think you're going to like this one.
Thanks for your blessings and informative comments, Stefan! Cannota wait for my Gran Lusso to arrivo! (That was my best stab at an Italian accent). :)

Probably shouldn’t mention this here, but it relates...somewhat.
I’ve also purchased a thin ribbon wide brim Barlesoni this week. An Italian knock-off lid made in the American southern city of Atlanta? I read up on the brand in the FL threads and no one seemed to know why the brand tried to come off as an Italian made hat while built in hickville.
Anyway, it’s a white felt hat somewhat mimicking an Open Road style; with a campaign bow. I love campaign bows! Cain’t wait fer it to git here, too. (Said with my true Georgia southern accent)

Recently arrived stingy. I like some stingy brims, but this hat just isn’t my style and will be put in the classifieds. The color is fantastic!

A later hat of theirs and I can see why the shape is not the most attractive one for you. The felt and colour look great though.

Recent acquisition! I missed an opportunity to to capture a brown piece in The Lounge earlier. But sometimes nice pieces simply 'fall' into your lap when ya ain't lookin'...

It's a Borsalino Gorasgu; what's not to like? Fantastic find, Jack. Pity the label is damaged and we don't know the colour. Borsalino has more than 40 colours of brown to choose from. My guess would be Caffe or Mogano.

Suede Marque Grand Luxe Salvatore Balbi Borsalino, 50s? The diagonal liner seam is sewn together not just folded. Idk a thing about these hats, but I know quality when I see it and wear it.
2 1/2 inch brim. 4 1/2 inch crown front as creased, so great proportions! The felt is super incredible!!
It’s no Gorasgu, but it’ll have to do.

I found this little borsalino at a thrift store don’t know much about borsalino hats. Just a quick question on the construction of these. Is the straw band supposed to be covered with a silk band or is this the way it’s supposed to be. Looks like a faded ring where band used to be.

Oh my! Y'know. This is why I remain a hat scholar! I tried my best to read that label! The seller and me went back and forth playing 'label detectives.' :). Nonetheless, I am so grateful for the information sir! The brim edge treatment appears to be over welt but the stitching (or lack thereof) cannot be seen under the brim. I'm thinking (and I know I don't paid to) it was kinda like the Cavanagh (sp) edge Borsa style! :D. Thanks again!

Don't know a lot about their straw hats, but there definitely should be a ribbon on that hat that covers the straw band.

Borsalino did an overwelt with blind stitching, which this one seems to be. They also did an actual Cavanagh edge, but they called it "feltrato" (felted).

Apparently nothing is sacred:

What would Giuseppe think? At least it comes with a match to set it on fire.
I don't get the thought process that takes what is a real nice, lightweight straw hat and weighs it down with heavy ribbon, additional heavy (ostentatious, oversized) liner tip and then further ruining the beauty of a hand finished, hand woven brim edge and covering it up with a brim binding... unless it's just a way too cover up a buggered brim. And that's saying nothing about the split tone colors on the brim binding, which I find sophomoric, or - as this case may be - sooooooo 2nd grade.

Otherwise, I like the hat too! :)

Just discovered this forum and I'm duly impressed by the knowledge herein.
I just received this Borsalino and I'm trying to get an estimate of its age. I'm sure y'all can help me out. If there is a good resource for dating these hats I'd love to find it. I've googled it several times with no luck. The front of the sweat band is Marked "Beaver Twenty-one"

Welcome to the lounge and welcome to the Borsalino Brotherhood. Very nice find you've got there. "Schiuma" (meaning "foam") is not a colour we see that often. The second name is the colour of the ribbon (the c. stands for "cinta" meaning ribbon). It dates from the early to mid-sixties. There is an overview I've posted in this thread which listst the different types of labels and the years we know they were used. It's not an exact science, but as close as we can get this far.
