Continuation of What Jacket Are You Wearing Pictures

So in these uncertain and frightening times I feel like we could all use some good news and to put some things in the spotlight. For example my dad is 60 years old, a smoker for 40 of them, high cholesterol and borderline diabetic. He was hospitalized 8 days with pneumonia and Corona. He made it! Released on Thursday and home doing so much better now.

In any case I wanted to share a story I think the people of this forum would really appreciate. On March 14th( before the real social distancing began)my fiancé and I did our engagement photos. We both love vintage and repro. So we decided to fully
Embrace that for these photos and the location was perfect.

For our very first date years ago I took her to this local independent family operated theater called The Screening Room. They only show classic films, cult films, documentaries and independent films. We went the week of Valentines to see Casablanca. We’ve now been back every Valentines for 4 years to see it. We’ve seen tons of films there now. They have tables and couches for seating instead of row seating . They serve traditional theater drinks and snacks as well as wine, champagne, beer and cider. The walls are plastered with classic posters and decor.

They opened early for us on a Saturday morning. Allowed us free reign to shoot wherever we wanted. Allowed us to move things around, use as props, made us some mimosas, served us a champagne toast. The owner even over heard our Casablanca story and switched out posters in the main display so we could photograph in front of it.

I bring this up because in these times I have no idea how long they can last. Now more than ever small businesses, mom and pops, local stores need our help and support. These places make the world go round. They make our individual towns and cities unique and worth while. If there’s anything you can do during these times to help and support them I ask you all do so! I wouldn’t have gotten that amount of help and support at a chain.

In the end we did 1950s and I’m wearing a hat picked up at a local business here in Buffalo, Pure Blue Japan Jeans, 1950s Sears Oakbrook and Joe Strummer Creepers by George Cox. We also did a more traditional 1930s-1950s suit and tie set which I only included a few of those for a taste

hope the small businesses survives this, but I hear cicada screaming since yesterday, probably soon dry season will come and the virus dry out in the sun

my aunt is in her 70s and she and her husband are heavy smoker too, I usually visit them since they live nearby, but since the outbreak reached our town, I stopped visiting, I also stop visiting my mom too since she is also in her 70s and her husband is a smoker with heart condition.

That was the hardest part. Not being able to even visit. So my dad suffers terrible sinus infections every year. He assumed at the start that was the issue. He stayed home with my mom and their dog for about a week and it just got worse and worse. He called his doctor, and she wanted him tested but our area ran out of tests. A few days later he was even worse and called again, this time there were tests but he wasn’t considered “essential.” So his doctor said screw protocol and the rules just show up at the nicest hospital you live around and in your condition they will have to admit you and test you. Which they did and he was positive and had pneumonia. And they told my mom since you’ve been alone with him for a week you’re also positive we don’t have to waste a test on you we already know. My mom was put on quarantine at her home. Thankfully even though she’s immunocompromised she only had a sore throat and small cough. My dad on the other had was on IVs of all sorts of anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and was put on oxygen 3 times throughout. And when someone is in the hospital for any illness or surgery there’s not much that can be done. We say things like let me know what I can do and normally even under any circumstance it’s an empty platitude. But we can at least sit with them, bring them food or play games. Hold their hand. With this we can’t do a damn thing. Moms alone with her dog at home. My dad is utterly alone in a scary place. With alll of his medical issues I’m at home worrying and worrying. It was very hard. But they made it and I’m so relieved.

That’s why I posted this. Now the outfits we wore and the place we went fit TFL perfectly. They alone were worth posting this. But I also wanted to stress that places like The Screening Room truly are the things that make any town/city their own places. They truly and seriously are the things that make traveling or vacations to new places worth the time and money. Regals and AMCs will be just fine during this. Friday’s and Applebee’s will still be there in the end. They are everywhere and they exist in my hometown and every other town in America. Not only is it the unique and difference that matters, it’s the service. The family that owns The Screening Room are the sweetest family. The main guy who runs it made a world of difference for my fiancé and I. Like I mentioned he opened early on a Saturday morning for us when they didn’t have to and weren’t making a ton of money for doing so. Putting up the poster for us. He sat at his desk and said shoot anywhere you want. Wasn’t following us around making us feel like he thought we would steal stuff. Allowing us to move stuff to get better shots. He made us popcorn and drinks. Gave us a champagne toast. Most places won’t do any of that. Or the ones that do will have some sort of service charge/fee for every little thing you can think of or want to add.

Best news story I've heard in weeks! Great news about your Dad and what a great photo shoot. I hope you threw in a "Here's lookin' at you, kid," somewhere along the line! I dig what you're saying Danny, here in Sydney we've got a perfectly preserved 1936 Art Deco cinema called the Hayden Orpheum. They show modern movies, classics, even have events with swing bands etc every few months. I support that fine venue every chance I get. Took my daughter there to see Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears in February 'cause she's a big fan of Miss Fisher, and it was the perfect place to view that movie in.

That is incredible. This place is very quaint. Very small. It’s filled to the brim with classic film posters. Their movie selections are incredible. It’s nice to see things like Casablanca at a little two person table while sipping mimosas. But the decor and aesthetics have nothing on that. So a few things. 1. Thanks for the thoughts and support. I just hung up the phone with my dad and he sounds amazing. It truly was terrifying for a while there. My fiancé likes to call me Spock or a robot. And I do admit I’m not good with feelings. Well I feel them all but the expressing of my feelings I am lacking. So to feel this and express it was new for me. 2. There was some classic film quoting ha. 3. Let’s make a deal if I somehow ever end up in Sydney we’re going to see something together? I don’t know if you have a significant other but if you do it’s a double date. And if not you said you have a daughter she can tag along. Deal?

Totally my friend. We'll show you the whole city! Would love to meet you guys in person and see something (hopefully classic) at the Orpheum.
