I don't particularly like the zip pull, no. It's a bit too much, a bit too eighties for me. I've been debating what to do with it and I'd sort of settled on just cutting it down to a plain rectangle (which would retain the HG logo embossed on it) and painting it black to blend with the rest of the metalwork.
But I like your leather puller idea much better. I might try something like that.
In the meantime, what with the weather, and one thing and another, there's literally no excuse not to take a couple of sunshine photos. Thus:
