I've basically spent my Saturday going through all of the photos on this thread, as well as Michael's gallery (many of the same hats, to be sure). I'm definitely sold on his work. I originally was looking for a brown homburg and asked if he does that style. He politely demured, saying that it wasn't a style he felt capable of doing--a modesty that I greatly respect in an artist and craftsman.

I hadn't considered granite. It's a very interesting choice, though, as belfastboy says (and the photos show), it depends on greatly on the batch of felt at hand. Natural is another I hadn't looked closely at before, and a very nice medium between sahara and pecan or granite, yet not as bold as camel. I think I'm leaning that direction, especially since upon inspecting my brown hat again, it's closer to pecan or medium brown than dark brown. So, something lighter, but maybe not as light at sahara--natural fits that nicely. But, as you know, it all depends on the batches, and what felts Michael has available for my size (61.5).

Thank you again for the advice, and for posting so many pictures of you hats on this thread! I look forward to working with Michael to choose a hat soon, and hopefully receive it in a couple months. I'll post the order specs to the thread once we've got them set.

Another way to think about using a hat to coordinate with attire is whether the hat felt is a warm or cool color. Warm felt color will compliment warm colors in an outfit. I also find a silverbelly with charcoal (to make neutral or allow pairing with gray/back) to be very versatile with attire. Some wrongs that are obvious, but lots of options that work. The hardest, IMO, is trying to match the hat to an article of clothing. This is nearly impossible and like pairing clothing with tie a complimentary hue is better.

Moss green is a cool color. The whiskey is a warm color even in different lighting situations.

Crazy but you may want to hunt up a pic of you in your attire and start putting some of the many hats shown on this thread on top of your picture to see what you like.

Michael said he hopes to have a new block in eight weeks. Should be about the time my hats come up in his queue so no impact. Of course, these days nothing is for sure and who knows what delays might await us. Still, wether it’s in two months or four we’ll still have our hats. It eases the pain that we’re leaving felt weather anyway.

A suggestion: Once you have narrowed down your choice(s) ask Michael to send you a swatch of the felt)s) under consideration. NEVER, ever trust the colours you see in your monitor except as relative comparisons. Also note that the colour of the hat you receive will be lighter than the unpounced swatch.

One aspect that makes felts fascinating to me is how the light plays with the colour. Even with a good camera and a good monitor it all depends on the lighting. The same hat side by side by side in 3 different lighting will can look like 3 different coloured hats. I have learned, sadly through mistaken purchases, never to trust a picture on my monitor. Have fun with the selection.
