The Century Bar is a long-time Dayton establishment that has seen many reincarnations over the years. It was started as a male only coffee shop a few years after the Great Dayton Flood of 1913, and the historic back bar was put in in 1924 (I think it came from a hotel in Cincinnati, but don't quote me).

I've been drinking in there for many decades and, when I moved to my current location near downtown in 1991, it became my "neighborhood bar." I was pretty much a regular on Tuesdays and Fridays for many years, until the couple who owned it sold it and retired (damn, they had good free wings on Fridays). Now under the same name, it was reestablished as a bourbon bar a few years ago and now regularly resides in the top echelon of Best Bourbon Bars in America from several sources and has been on the Bourbon Review's best of list for seven years. On January 1st, 2020, they closed up shop and moved into a larger space next door. I was skeptical, but they managed to make it feel like the old, smaller space, but expanded.

All that as preface to this news story, which is cool as heck.

It's just too bad they couldn't reuse it. But it's wonderful it will help the joint stay afloat until they can reopen.

This might be a repeat, but if not ... (saw it in the background of a Sam Adams beer commercial)
