How do you guys store your hats when not on your head?
I've been wondering about the best or at least a good way to do this.
I've seen some of you pack them in plastic, while some have them stored on top of one another on flat racks. Others have them lying around the place like me.
The problem is, the more hats you acquire, the less space to store them. Especially when you have a small apartment like mine.
I thought I'd start this new topic so we could inspire and learn from each other.
I bought this hat stand recently and set it up today. It's my current solution.
I have another plan of screwing old wine bottle corks on my walls and hanging my hats on them.
Looking forward to hearing and seeing fellow FL'ers solutions.

There are several caveats, including beach time, but we'll let the lawyers work that out. Come to think of it, there are few Loungers that admit to being lawyers.

OK! I finally finished ordering my hats! It took a while!
The first safe, on the left of the first pic, with a 55-hat capacity, stores the narrow brims and the first section of the homburgs, each hat covered in a plastic bag with its name, and they are all in alphabetical order. Two hats in front of each shelf, three in the back

Ithe second has a 114 hat capacity, starting with the rest of the Homburgs on top, then the straws, then the felt Forties, Fifties, and One Hundreds, and then the start of the rest of the felt hats, three in the front and four in the back of each shelf

Damn, I go into overwhelm just looking at the pictures. With my modest 55 hat collection I have trouble deciding most days which one to pick.

Your sense of order kind of makes me nervous and jealous at the same time. My collection is more like Eric's. It has the added advantage of never finding the hat you're looking for, but a few dozen other nice ones instead.

If you are storing hats on open hat racks, a high-quality air filter (NOT the spun glass kind) in your furnace/A/C unit goes a long way toward minimizing dust build up. And it goes without saying...if you smoke indoors, it will ruin EVERYTHING. Hats included. I learned this the hard way years ago.
I store most of my hats in plastic 4-drawer units. They are like a wooden chest-of-drawers, but much less expensive. I can get about 4 hats in each drawer if I stack them in groups of two. If it's a downturned-brim hat, it goes on the top of a sturdier hat to keep the brim hanging down. Just my two cents...

I get really frustrated when looking for something I can't find. Patience is a virtue I don't have. Besides, I am a dentist; I better be able to find stuff quickly in my office.

After a week or so, the sweatband adapts to the wooden block. Also, after you wear the hat for a while, the sweatband tends to shrink a little bit, so the next time you put the hat on it will feel tight.
If you store the hat on a block, it won't.
