I like your tear drop. I use either that or a centre dent and two wide pinches. Your tear drop is quite deep where as I prefer mine a little shallower...personal preference. I do not mess with the brims as the brim cup is set by the flanging process and I tend to not mess with it unless I am tearing a hat apart to rebuild it.

The button.cord is called a wind cord and is designed to be unwound and the button attached to the button loop that existed on men's suit or overcoats back in the day in order to secure it against losing the hat in a windstorm.
You have a nice hat there.

Nice looking Borsalino. The liner suggests a more modern Borsalino, but the label under the sweatband should give us a more accurate timeframe. There's only one answer to the question of what shape and that is the shape you want to give it.

That's the one. It is indeed a more modern Borsalino. The company used this type of label from 1983 onwards. There's hardly any information about which numbers were introduced in what year, but I'd say probably early tot mid-nineties for that one.

May I have a second opinion on this hat please?

I believe it is from the 50's? The damaged brim binding does not bother me too much as the hat would be worn casually. Looking for a shape-able crown homburg with a brim style that has a smaller curl in the front and rear than on the sides similar to the D'Orsay curl of a Derby.

this doll arrived today. "7 5/8 61" my arse ... if i understand cell dates this Borsa was made between 36' and 53? hat feels wonderful and pictures don't do it's colors justice: ribbon is almost copper. i'll let pictures do more talking as i know way less about Borsalino than i do Stetson!

^^^ these are indeed the facts .. description was so precise i had no reason to question. in a perfect world i'm a 7 3/8 LO ... i was planning on padding the expected 7 5/8.
trade fodder i figure ; )
edit .. how egregious be this? hat is tilted forward a bit. wonder if i could gently stretch out the diff?

Well, we got the time frame right anyway. Pity the label has been worn away like it is. Impossible to say from the pic which colour and model it is on the label. It is actually my size; wonder how they could get that so wrong in the listing. Stretching a hat three sizes might be err.. stretching it, I think.

Borsalino Nutria Cocisan in Carla colour. Size 7 with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Very lightweight at only 83 grams and the hand of the felt is incredible (as I hoped). From the M. Hutter, Merano, find of hats.
Brim looks a bit off, but that's because my current hat stand is a bit too wide and distorts the hats somewhat.

Mid fifties to early sixties for this one. Carla is a colour we don't see too often.

Judging by the tag it's from the 30s, its a bit beaten-up, but hey!! you would be after 80 year!!

My latest arrival Borsalino Qualita Extra Superiore Ludoita model in beautiful Crema (cream) color. This hat... if it were here during the original 30 Days to 30 Hats would have beyond a shadow of a doubt had a prominent position. It is in the styling of Stetson Open Road - thin ribbon matching skinny edge binding. And the felt very high quality super smooth And velvet touch without being a fuzzy type finish. It is not the super thin “blow a crease into it” felt of my Stetson Standard Quality. It is more of a Thicker luxurious dress weight Felt. That being said I put it through some paces with a few different creases and it handled them like a champ. From a basic center dent with soft front pinch... to a modified cattleman’s crease.. to a quick deeper diamond bash with strong side dents. It took it all in stride. It seemed to love the Cowboy shape. So we will see.

@steur indicates this one to be of mid 1950’s to early 1960s. Thank you Stefan for that info and apparently forgetting to bid on this one.
