Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

I want to like Iron Heart more than I can, but I just don’t see the value compared to, say Brave Star. I get that the finishing won’t be on the same level, but it’s denim at the end of the day, not leather. A cleaner interior is not going to matter to me much.

Still, I would never knock someone from buying it because they do seem to make quality stuff (viewed strictly through photos and reputation), and I wouldn’t mind seeing them tackle jog denim for those of us yearning for the freedom from uncomfortable cotton.

The R&D dept. of Iron Heart is probably working really hard on the jog-denim collection for those die-hard denim-heads that are heavily into active wear too...

ps: not looking forward to them pics though...

Iron Heart fanboiis would have a fit if they put anything elastic in the jeans.

I don't want any elastic in my jeans either... hell, I buy the most accurate 30s-40s Levis repros I can find so I don't even want polyester or even poly-cotton thread used on my jeans.

It is arguably vintage inspired, looks good, feels good... it’s jog-denim! I think I’ve been converted!

A real man wears a 4-oz LW jacket paired with 22-oz 100% cotton starchy denim jeans and horsehide boots that weigh 3 lbs each. Someone needs to invent underwear, socks, and a t-shirt made from 15-oz fabric and we're all set!

I recently bought my first pair of jeans (Levis 505) with some “stretchy” in them. They feel good when I’m sleeping on a plane, etc. BUT I do like a certain amount of stiffness/ firmness in my jeans too. Different pairs for different days.

Stretch denim does not appeal to me. I tried some black Levi’s with a small percentage of woven spandex and the feeling was not good. Clinging to legs, shapeless and very feminine feeling. I won’t ever buy another pair and sent those straight to the donation bin.

I totally get where you are coming from and I agree that Brave Star makes A great jean jacket. From a value perspective I don’t think you can argue that an IH is twice as good as a Brave Star and therefore deserves to be priced twice as high (or three times as high...).
I will say that for me personally I have owned jackets from both companies and I continue to wear and purchase the ones from IH. I don’t know that it comes down to interior finishing since I never really look at the inside of these jackets unless something sticks out and pokes me somewhere.
Perhaps it is because I feel Iron Heart has come closer to making the perfect denim jacket, as silly as that may sound. The ones I have found that fit me well are solid and give me almost the same feeling I get from wearing a nice leather jacket.
Not trying to sway you here, just attempting to explain what makes IH worthwhile for me.

I can second that. I'm currently wearing stretch Nudies and while they're fading decently, the clinging to legs is annoying and I don't particularly enjoy them at all. Being too skinny right now, I don't have a pair of jeans that fits me well atm and need to do something about that but if I want to avoid 90's dad fit, these Nudies are all I have with any sort of shape. But yeah, I'm definitely not a fan, even if they are easier to wear than IH's heavyweights. I have to get back to my Nordic Projects, though.

Yep, agreed. Had a chance to try on many awesome jackets by many awesome brands but my IH is still a keeper. Just works for me. Looks great, comfortable, fades well (albeit slow)...

Reminds me I gotta get the racer one.

I absolutely love both the Brave Star and the IH type III. They both have a place in any denim fans closet imho but I can see the price on IH being a bridge too far for some. That said my first pair of everyday IH jeans is still going quite strong some (10 years?) later. Considering what True Religion jeans used to go for...IH seems insanely cheap

When you post about jog denim, trucker shorts, or any number of associated things you are guaranteed to get replies which are ironic, sarcastic, or a combination of the two. In fact I can almost guarantee that you will not get any other kind of reply. therefore I think the use of Smileys is superfluous.

I wear 24oz to sleep, once the starchy feeling gone, they just feel like those hickory striped light blanket my grandma and father used to have folded under their pillow for emergency blanket when night suddenly get chilly.

I still like stretch black denim, I think it is the only good color for tight fitting mens pants.

what I hate about stretch denim is overtime the rear top yoke will bubble out of shape if you wear belt and you spent few hours sitting daily, that upper rear yoke would be stretched out and unable to stretch back over time.

100% cotton has been nothing but comfortable for me as long as I've worn it.
