Not really unusual, you can find a lot of these on eBay. Made in Tunisia would make it early to mid 2K's. Defintiely not vintage, that's for sure. There are a lot of these different models floating around they'd do each year, some for a specific market, that might seem like something previously unseen. Looks nice in any case.
Just found 2 the same on ebay.UK. 25 to 39 pounds sterling , same chest pockets , same code number inside.
(never thought to look there before now !).I presume a Euro spec jacket , as said the only one I have seen in Australia
I stopped looking after finding 2 , they were both on page 1 !
How did it arrive in Australia is the next question ?
Brought by an emigrating "Pom" (Englishman) or by a returning Aussie after the compulsory 1year/2years in Europe.
I have just searched Aussie ebay and of 454 hits for "Levi jacket" none like this in Australia.
My I will be such a trendsetter haha...

I have two of these MIJ 11MJ 1947 prototype repro. Later model in the 50s called 111MJ features its now signature circular stitching on the pleats and some other modifications like gussets while Levi's officially launched its type 2 in 1953 so this prototype is probably the inspiration for the Levi's type 2.
Wrangler before 1947 only makes worker overalls. This 11MJ was supposed to be the first Wrangler denim cowboy jacket.

I had a really neat and rare Levi's, kinda Type 2 and 3 mix that was available only in two countries in a limited run. The jacket looked great but still couldn't sell it even for like $30. Eventually I sold it locally for something dirt cheap. If it was in my size I wouldn't ever have even bothered.

I just received my new IH 22 oz. Type 3 and I am stoked!
My track record with IH denim jackets has not been great, I have sent at least three of them back immediately upon receipt because the fit was either too tight, too long, or both! Still, I know that when the numbers work out it is really something special so I was willing to try again on this one. Suffice it to say I am very happy with the fit and I finally have the heavyweight IH indigo jacket I have been waiting for.

What size did you get (if you don't mind me asking)? I like the fit. It looks like a regular jean jacket, as opposed to a modern skinny-fit.

I got an XXXL. For reference I am 6’1” and around 185 pounds with a 43” chest. I agree about the fit on this one, a little looser than some of the other IH type 3 jackets I have purchased in the same size.

We're not that far off in weight and height, how come you bought an XXXL and I find M perfectly comfortable with a room to spare, can wear it over a sweater or something.

. Seriously though, I think it might be because I have unusually broad shoulders for my height and weight. I think some of this may be because of genetics and also probably because as an electrician I work with my arms up over my head for many hours a day sometimes. For that reason I am always looking for a jacket with at least 20” shoulder width. I can go a little tighter but then I usually feel the jacket bind across the back when I move. I just tried it on again as I was typing this and I can say confidently that one size smaller would have been too small for me.

Funny how faded denim is making a come-back in the high end repro / heritage world.
Now we got stuff like this selling for major money... But TBH, I always prefer this faded denim over the indigo one. If I could somehow get my IH jackets to look like this, I'd do it in a second and wouldn't look back. Is there???
Oh, sorry, didn't see you replied to my question. Aye, all good. I was just surprised you'd be wearing an XXXL in the same jacket, when we're so close in size. It's all about what you prefer and how you feel. Same as I always feel I don't like wearing a baggy trucker jacket, though I like the look of one on me.

but if you fade it yourself from dark indigo, it would have more contrast, not universally pale like that.
here in my country prefaded jackets are always high selling, but also very cheap typically $15-20, dunno how top repro brands could compete with that, I don't get it. I do see type2 getting more and more mainstream now, and cheaper mall brands are making it too.

I've been looking for a Levi's type 2 jacket for some time but many of the jackets made today are too long for my taste. Few weeks ago I found this one which has been made in the early 90s in Japan. Length 22.5 inch which is perfect for me, I'm 5'11
I especially like the natural wear on it. Nothing spectacular but just enough to give it some character which you won't find in a new 'distressed' jacket
